I have a 2005 2500HD pickup.

These trucks have a known issue with the gage clusters having faulty speedometer needles.

This applies to GMC and Chevrolet pickups built in 2004 and 2005.

My pickup has developed this issue, and it has only 59,000 miles on it.

I just took it to the local GMC dealer / Caddillac dealer which is the only general motors dealer within 200 miles of this town.

They told me they can no longer do "Cross brand warranty work"

Seriously, what the *********** is that? Seriously.

That is the biggest crock of **** I have ever heard of in my entire life.

GMC and Chevrolet trucks are built at the SAME ****ING PLANTS on the SAME ****ING ASSEMBLY lines. The only difference is one says GMC and one says Chevrolet and they are shipped to different, or in some cases, THE SAME dealers.

Now supposedly GM dealerships won't perform "Cross Brand Warranty Work" even though it isnt even really cross-brand?

What the ****.

Has anyone else had this happen?

pretty sad man..

lets hear three cheers for obama!

you never could. you couldn't take a gmc truck to a chevy dealer for warrenty

So its kinda like owning a polaris ! If there is a dealer they cant or wont help the customer! I dont know for sure but I am betting I am not the only one who has bought there last GM product! I think they will have a hard time selling there product to anyone I dont think even Obamazombies will be that stupid!

Look at it from a Dealer point of view.

Dealer A is a GMC dealer he shelled out 450,000 just to get his dealership started and get the GMC line a wile back I'm sure it cost more than this but just throwing out a number.

Doing so he gets the GMC linup and also all the warranty work that comes his way.

Dealer B is a Chevy dealer paid the same yada yada.

So here you are Dealer A that paid all this money to get the rights to work and sell a GMC product line go to all the work to spread the word that your are a "authorized GMC dealer" and right across the road you see Dealer B taking in the GMC line for work even though he never paid one red cent to get the rights to take warranty claims on that product line.

Not standing up for GMC I own one love the truck but will not buy another till they pay back us Tax payers.

Just trying to put two sides on it is all so don't burn me.

We have always had our Tahoe worked on at our GMC dealer , because we like them better. Every time has been for warrenty or recalls , unless somthing has changed in the past few months . This dealer is just being a prick . GM pays for it no matter what GM dealer does the work .

They should be happy to get shop rate to put in the cluster . Post the name of that dealer so we can all stay away from them . What Douche Bags , i never did like that state . Go to Idaho , they will hook you up.

I also have an 05 2500HD with 75,000 on it and haven't seen the issue yet, but I believe I heard of the problem last winter. What exactly is the issue with the speedometer, and how quickly should one get to a dealer on this? As I said...no problem yet. I believe there could be a "class action" lawsuit on this issue.

They can do a number of things. Needles can stick or get all out of whack or most times they just go blank and will not read a thing.

The 2 trucks i have seen this happen on were both 04 gmc duramaxes and both of them would just max out hte needle when you turned the truck on.

Our 05 chevy duramax has none of those issues. Only thing thats been fixed on our truck is injectors at 115,000 just to be safe.

my 03 gmc speedo did this, squealed loud goin down the road on a 30 below day and was wacked out ever since, took it in and they have to flash the info and send in to gm to have a new cluster built to replace it with the correct mileage and info in it.

Shoudln't make a difference to the dealership. There is no such thing as cross line work. GM Warranty is the customer. THe only thing that I can think of for hesitance by the dealer is a chance that they won't be paid for the warranty work. Dealer A fixes your truck (never sold it to you, don't know you from Adam) and bills GM Warranty for the charges. Let's pretend that it's $2000.00. With Chapter 11 and insolvency, the dealer may wonder if they will be paid or not. He lays out wages for the tech to do the job, pays for the part in his parts account and pays the service manager, administration etc. ahead of time. GM decides not to pay him and he is SOL. Not saying this is the case but it certainly could be. IF it's a Pontiac Buick GMC dealer who's losing one of his major car lines, he's not very happy with GM to begin with.

FYI, for more peeps that have this problem and if you are out of coverage there is a company on Ebay that is doing complete OH on these with lifetime warranty for 150 bux.

That has been the case for decades from what I have seen.....GMC must have warranty work done by GMC dealer, Chevy by Chevy. Nothing new.
I agree it makes little sense, but I have understood this to be the way it has always been handled.

Doing GM cross line warranty is no problem for the dealers, if they want to. ESPECIALY if the closest Chev dealer is 200 miles away. Call Customer Asst. and they should handle it for you.

And I hardly think that it's the first f****up for government motors and I don't believe that your cluster issue is very "epic". Problem....Yes. Epic problem....No.
