The main aspect of all of this social media is to know when to put them away. I'm socially "plugged-in" you could say, but there is a time and place for all of it.
Facebook - strictly for connecting with family and long lost friends, and nothing but humor. If it get's serious, I'm out. Living in Chile, it helps me connect with family and friends back home.
Instagram - All about seeing some wicked pictures and sharing ridiculous happenings with friends.
Twitter - Honestly I use it to keep up on MX/MotoGP news and the odd joke. Race weekends are abuzz on Twitter and a lot of info you just won't get by reading articles come Monday morning.
MySpace - Is that even a thing anymore? Never did that.
LinkedIn - Business contacts only. A few groups I'm in keeps me up to date on what's going on in my business world back home.
SnapChat - Well that is purely for personal enjoyment
Also, the program tells you when the other person screenshots your snapchat, so don't get caught trying to save something naughty without them knowing.
Foursquare - Just something fun and to see where your friends are today. Everyone on my list is doing something cool, traveling, living abroad, driving across countries. So it's fun to see the odd picture or write-up of something they encountered on their travels.
As for forums, Snowest, BCR, iBoats, arcticchat, and a hotrod forum are the ones I frequent. This is the only one I'm actually vocal on tho. The rest are just reference points for what interests me, read em, and leave.
There are a few other forums but nothing substantial and usually not worth sitting on for more than 5 minutes.
The main thing, is to limit your daily consumption and never get into the mindset that you "need to" log in and see what's going on just for the sake of it. You can't stop your normal life to scroll thru news feeds. That's the trap many people fall into.
