AN OPEN LETTER TO POLARIS ENGINEERS

It's funny... I heard the same chatter when PERC was an 'option' on the sleds... "A real man doesn't need reverse".

If a compact, efficient, light starter appeared...I'd be all over it like stink on a hippie!

If it weighed 0 lbs, I would be all over it...unless it cost more. With fuel injected sleds these days and 1 pull starts no matter how long it's been upside down, I really don't see the point. However, I'm still 26. I'm sure my 60 year old dad might think different. These things don't pull over hard...

I agree that they are good sleds but there are some things that definitely need fixed for next year. I run two in my rental fleet, one sks and one 3" pro. Both are around 3000 miles this far, I see problems a little sooner than most owners. I have now gone through 3 mountain bars, the mountain bar can not be purchased seperate from the handlebars $185. Good news is Polaris has warrantied this issue so far. Plan on your mountain bar breaking before too long. The tab where the bumper connects is too weak. I have a sled that the bumper does have a scratch or a bend, yet the tab is broken. I am also not too impressed with the life of the track. Both the 3" and 2.6 have several paddles missing all the way down to the cord of the track, not just a torn paddle from rocks. Lastly my 3" pro is in for wiring issues, cracked wire above the coil, getting a new harness installed today. This sled is one of many with wires cracking, sounds like possibly a bad batch of wire or something along those lines. Not bagging on the sleds, my sks has been somewhat flawless, besides the crappy idle which was fixed by adjusting the base tps. If the engineers are really reading this, their are some issues that need fixed for the 2017 models.

All you tough guys that pull start with your huge muscles! :face-icon-small-hap
Over the day each one of those pulls adds up and can really drain extra energy. There isn't one of you who would rather kick start a dirt bike all day long vs push a button to start. Its a huge waste of energy.
E-start also helps when you are in those awkward situations where you cant quite get the angle to pull the cord.
The only downside to e-start today is the weight. And thats why mtnhorse sent a letter trying to address it. :)

Absolutely. Also helps when sled has been sitting during storage. I deleted my battery comment.

Average of 20-40 rips a day? A lot of wasted energy not to mention the possible long term ramifications on body parts when the years start accumulating.

Dirt bikes seem to mostly be e-start now? I don't know anybody that says their next bike will manual?

I would think the poor people that have to fire up each manual start sled at the factory would welcome this.

Agreed. I chose to get e start this year because I noticed that my shoulder was really bugging me on some off camber starts. The energy factor is huge also. Nothing like just turning a key after a nasty stuck or just shutting off the sled to listen for where your buddies are at.

Lol old people make me laugh;) Just pokin fun. But I've never in my life thought "I shouldn't turn this sled off because if I do, I'm gonna have to start it again" lol

Dave,

On my tour of the factory... the end of the line start up has a machine to pull start the sleds...

I figured this had probably been instituted by now. But let's not forget about the dealer techs doing this day in and day out not to mention cranking a problematic starting sled.
