An ‘unbelievable' act of sportsmanship.....local girl involved..makes Sportscenter.

And people complain that athletics has little value in school.

I guess it was on the national network news too...

Here is a pic...

A co-worker just sent this email out to us...

"I just an email from Liz. She isn’t going to be on Oprah- yet, but they have already been on ESPN2, local news, and they were mentioned by Katie Couric. Sports Center is going to interview them today and Ellen Degeneres has called, so they might be on Ellen."

Flame on!

OK I guess I will be the first to question this decision!

Were they nuts?

"Her home run sent Western Oregon to a 4-2 victory, ending Central Washington's chances of winning the conference and advancing to the playoffs."

I think the gesture was great, and the media will eat it up! kind of like the story about the disabled kid they let play basketball in the last game of the year and he hit a bunch of 3-pointers!

But this is college level ball probably the last chance for a lot of girls on both teams at making the playoffs and winning the conference! I sure hope everyone on Central Washingtons team agreed to end thier season this way?

Great read!!

Excellent story......thanks Scott for sharing that. :) It is good to see that it's not always about winning. There are other things in life more important, and those gals can be very proud of themselves for what they did!! :face-icon-small-coo

It turns out that the coach got a corrected ruling from the NCAA the next day, and she should have been allowed a pinch-runner to round the bases for her anyway. So the outcome wouldn't have changed, the home run would have counted. Still an awesome story of sportswomanship...

My understanding is that the pinch runner would still not have completed it as a HR. She would have taken a single and started the next pitch as a runner on first.

Her brother told me a few mins ago that she IS going to be on Oprah and Ellen, and others are still calling. He said she's already got a clip on YouTube from an interview or something.

It was not a game ending home run. I think it was 0-0 when she hit it and early in the game.
