Guys,

What are some alternatives to using ratchet straps to hold down a gas can to a tunnel rack. There has to be a more clever way!

Pal

I like Fabcraft's system, but if you don't want straps, try Mountain Addiction's set up.

I suppose you could take a piece of flat aluminum and bend it to form fit over the can and then use a few pins to attach to the rack on each end to hold it in place.

Or

Use a few old fashioned rubber bungee straps. If needed you can put a knot in the straps to shorten them. Also, bend the hooks so they don't protrude any further than they need to to keep them from coming loose and so they are less likely to catch on something.

I ran the same set of Mountain Addictions cans on 3 different sleds. Awesome set up and a bunch of color options.

I use a NRS strap to hold cans on my ATV, they form a continuos loop and don't wear holes in your cans. Much better than a ratchet strap, and will work on your tunnel rack.

They can be found at any rafting shop and some boat shops.

I got tired of ratcheting down my spare gas.. I have mountain addiction gas rack system and it works great! It is spendy though but I do recommend it

Mountain Addiction 100%. Loved the setup on my sleds, love the setup on my Mountain Horse. Great company!

I had the Craigerbuilt Gas Thingy and a Bag Thingy. Liked them. The only downfall I found was when you take them off if snow gets down into the lock area it can be a pain to clean out and reattach the can.

Switched to Mountain Addiction this year. I dig the mount, very easy to mount on a Polaris.

I run the Mountain Addiction can on my Timbersled MH, but you guys really need to run some additional strap to hold them on, or you will lose your can eventually.

They tend to change shape a bit from down low to up high and a small hit caused them to pop off the rails, or the cotter pin will fall out and it slides off. Trust me, you'll want a simple bungee if nothing else. I'm using 2 ROK straps, criss crossed over it, and it doesn't move.
