All Who Use Southcentral For Recreation Must Read!!!

Cantwell Area and Ahtna Private Property

From what I can tell, Ahtna has blocked the routes into Caribou Pass / Caribou Lakes by privatizing the acess of Middle Fork Chulitna River and Jack River (South SouthEast of Cantwell). I went up for the first time this year and it was Awesome. One of the best places I have ever been riding.

Also, On the attached link, is the section of road just south of mile 200. This is the area that has all those ugly signs off the highway. I here on the other side of those private property signs it's a really great area to ride in.

Click on the attached map to zoom in. Nice topo map.....I really wonder if Ahtna owns that also?

What do you guys think about all this? What can we do?

Don't be fooled by these maps. The new lands they are taking are NOT ON THEM. My dad talked to speaker of house Harris yesterday and he said they knew nothing of this new grab. Any value i.e. (rec. trail, mining claim, etc.) that has been established by everyone BUT ahtna is being taken by them. I guess the no bid 8a contracts given to them aren't enough. What is next? I wonder of how man people's cabins properties are in these areas and have been taken or access limited to them. I would like to see the new map......wait maybe i wouldn't.

I went and took my jeep down klutina lake trail a couple years ago, which according to maps is a blm trail. Well ahtna put up signs and gates saying that you have to pay them for use of the trail even though it is a blm trail. I paid the 5 bucks they were asking and drove down the trail next to the river, and right before I got to the lake ahtna put gates blocking the trail to the the lake. I used to work maintenance for the blm and have raised this to quite a few people and what it comes down to is no one wants to confront ahtna, so they will continue to block public trails and keep charging people to use public trails.

Land selections have been in effect since 1971, ANCSA. If you don't like it being closed off as being private property, move back to the lower 48.

The Why?

This is about controlling the land.....strips of land along highways and rivers. This blocks the corridors to places we enjoy to recreate with friends and family, places we can enjoy natures beauty with no harm done. It's simply a fence around gods country (or toll both). Why bother owning the land if one can control access. Greed, it's been around a long time also. ANCSA, it's also a result of greed (pipeline days). I don't give a crap about WHO is doing this, my issue is that it's blocking access to very nice places friends and families can go snowmobiling. If the concern is about blocking off hunting and fishing, so be it! That issue is being discussed on other forums. What's the point in shutting these areas off to recreational snowmobiling? I think it's a fair question to ask, and deserves an intelligent answer.

I dont have a problem with them getting land, I do have a problem with a group getting land to what it apears to me as to block acess from land that is publicly owned.

For me sence I am childish I will just say F them and cross it anyways.

Hmmm. Whats up with this BS. Is this "Ahtnot do buisiness with" share holders trying to make a buck because the corp isn't sharing proffits? Or is it a money gathering skeem by the corp to make a quick buck? I wouldn't stop or pay. They can't fine you for parking on a State highway, or make you pay a fine for parking in such a place. If its paved off the highway its owned by the State of Alaska, no corp. Seems like some bully tatctics being used. :face-icon-small-win
