All girl sled video

ACKKKKKK see, Steph and Emily make these great posts and get me all freaking fired up again! lol Steph, I got time this winter.. you, me, road trip, cheap camera…. Let’s roll baby! Hehehehe Thanks for coming over here and adding your 2 cents. You are a pioneer and hugely respected. :heart:

IF this film were to happen, I definitely think that putting the bio's in there would be very cool AND inspiring. There is so much that goes on in the background of some of these ladies lives.... it is crazy! :cool:

To me, this video could have far greater reach than just showing women can ride! It can show confidence, independence, strength, finesse, it can show that you CAN have your cake and eat it too (ie family and fun). It could also be somewhat informative. Tips, tricks, gear pros/cons kind of thing??? In can show the great encouragement that the husband/boyfriends give to get us to the levels that we are at. It could show how other female riders have affected us! For the ones who are sponsored it could show how these companies have been instrumental in improving their experience and or skills. It can show the amazing camaraderie with our other female friends out there who inspire us to push ourselves and the high fives when something is pulled off! And the pull your bootstraps up attitude when we fall. It might be something that the guys would yawn at....... but if it got their wives all fired up then in the end they might be whooooooooya'n themselves. ;) We could always throw in a pillow fight just for chits and giggles….

I look at the reach the Ladies Ride forum has had (thanks to Sarah Whipple) and it amazes me! If you could put the energy from that forum into video form, it would be fantastic! (and on some days a really bad reality show) On a regular basis I read that one of the ladies got inspired by something they read or a picture they saw on there and their next ride out they busted it! (example) AND it is reaching into other things! Not just sledding!

I saw something pretty amazing, to me, last year at the LR. We had a gal get sucked downhill into some trees; she got tired and was having difficulty getting herself back up the hill. A group of the ladies dropped down to help dig her out, cut her a path and get her back up. It took 2 hours of digging and bustin' to do so. But it was very incredible to watch the teamwork. It was also very neat to see the individuality and the strengths of each lady to kick in where they knew they could be of use. To me, to catch this on film would have been a great thing. No one panicked, there were no arguments, no cattiness, just teamwork to get chit done! (and in the process we ended up helping a few guys out as well! hehehe) It definitely showed the strong side of a sledchick! Now, this might be a bit dramatic... but it just showed SO many things (to me). :beer;

SH- that is so funny… the magical heli! ;) I want one!

I sure hope this will pans out this year. It'll be so cool to see a video of more than one lady rider in a video.

You know a road trip sure sounds like fun. Hey there Marmot!:D:beer;

B....I'm in for the road trip of a lifetime....now we better work on a gas sponsor!!!! LOL ! I think the stories behind us sledchica's would make the vid. WE will somehow, someway get this done B. We have no other choice...we have a ton of talent and those are just the ladies we've been able to see and ride with, let alone the ones we don't even know about!!!! WHOOO HOOO bring on the snow!

I am not going to be able to sleep tonight....... thank you very much! :beer;

haha You girls are all jacked up! Brandy - getting our fellow sledchica out of that hole really was a task! Funny thing is, I think that's the only reason some of those guys made it out of there - even then they were getting stuck in our PACKED DOWN TRACK up and outa that sucka! LOL Leaving big ars holes for the rest of us to get all catywhompus in! Good times! I'll never forget that! That hole coulda got a lot of riders too because there really was no easy turn around down there with how deep the snow was was and how off camber the terrain was, let alone above the creek bed and at the tree lines which definitely adds a mental element to get past! I can think of many riding buddies I would NOT want to take down there. And how many fricken times did we have to pound it out just too get a track over the top (through the tight trees)? WFO I was given her all I had at times!

Hehe - I think we need to go find another hole like that this year! That made for some challengingly FUN times! :p

OK I'll quit reminicing.

Back to this all girl video thing...

We all know, there are more and more women hitting the backcountry these days. I saw several women riders in places last year where I rarely see other men - and they were plugging right along! My group's reaction was "HEY! Look, there's another girl!" That's not something we see very often in other words. So I am not too surprised by the number of men that are surprised to see ladies back in places like that. On the other hand, there are many men who know we can and do hang no problem, (didnt need the magical helicopter in other words) and many of them are probably just one of the boys - so no big deal in their group anyways. We are not in large numbers like the guys (yet) and there are many of us who do just wanna ride when we are not committed to taking care of our families, our men ;), our business (and perhaps even the several families that depend our business) along with everthing else that life throws at us. It is women who hold down the fortress most often and we are our families strong-hold. "Every body loves Mama!" I think for us "mama's" - it's not that important for us to get out there and get recognized individually for recreational achievments - being the stars in our own families is sufficiant, but we are out there genuinly and hole heartedly rooting on and supporting the women who do have the desire to get out there, take this sport farther and shape, define and represent our needs for equipment and gear. It has been awesom seeing that aspect of our sport grow exponentially in the last 5 years!!!!!

And not just the ladies in the backcountry would make this film - those ladies topping out Jackson, railing the corners and flying high through doubles and whoops at the snowcross tracks, the ladies screaming down the grass drag strips and now gals ripping it up on the snow bikes..... we have lots of ladies out there from all aspects of our sport and it continues to grow each year. It doesnt seem like it would be that difficult at all anymore to put together even a 45 minute flick. We might have to wait a few years for a few more ladies to come out of the wood works, for the feilds to grow and the talent to step it up farther, but then again - if something did get put together now, just think of how many more women/ girfriends/ wives would be inpired to get out there sooner than later? Would be inspired to give that sled another shot? To bust off into powder la la land? To high mark their hubby's. (I like that one.) I get the "I wish my wife/GF would come out and do this with me." all the time! Or "I wish I could find me a girl friend who rides." or "You got any cute, single sled riding girl friends?". LOL I know plenty of men who are happy to leave their women at home too and plenty of women who are happy to stay home by the warm fire but I know that when they see other women actually tearing it up - they start looking at it differently.

One of the big companies might think about this as an opportunity for another sales angle - help put together an all women's sled video using their brand name sleds. Or just simply supply a few talented females out there with their new model sleds for them to show off in their adds and the videos. After all, I dont really see Polaris or AC or Doo marketing to the women riders in the actual sled selection department (really just the gear department). I quarantee I am looking at a well rounded female rider and wondering what she is riding and why? If she rides it well - she's just narrowed up the selection for my next sled purchase and my hubby didnt have to do it for me.

OK so that's my rant for now. Sorry I didnt post sooner.

Did somebody say "road trip"? :D :D Looks like I'll have to ask the boss for Feb off!! ;) :D

Sarah, I cant tell you how many times I've been asked if B has any single friends that ride. And also how many times one of the guys has said "I wish my wife/gf rode).

Most of the time, the chickas just need some encouragement (lots of times best if coming from someone other than the hubby/bf :D). Last spring at Baker, we had VINNEE and his wife up there, climbing out of one of the ravines. With a little encouragement, she climbed right up a snow covered water fall and was whoopin it up the whole time (and she's a first year rider!!).

My thoughts

An all-girl sled vid definately has obstacles. Even the guy sled videos are difficult to make because of the same reasons: Getting people/ equipment together at the same time, expenses, weather, talent that will keep the audience's attention, etc. The girl version would be a little tougher because of the mentioned reasons: Many are moms who don't have the time to sled as much, some just wanna sled vs. taking the effort needed to capture them on film, etc..
Another obstacle is getting a producer to make the video/ film the action. Being that it takes so much effort to make a great video, there usually has to be a lucrative financial reward. An all girl vid may not yield financial success if it is mostly of a few ladies tooling around in the snow. Even a guy vid wouldn't. The vids that make money are the ones that have insane climbs, crashes, jumps, etc.
BUT!!!......
If an all girl sled video had a different approach, I think it would be very successful. It is obvious that even just the talk of sledding gets you girls excited. The ladies ride you had must have been such a great time, that the memories make you impatient for snow.
So, if a video was made that
1. captured and portrayed you girls having fun at these get-togethers, made the viewers laugh along with you
2. had short but somewhat in depth biographies which showed the viewers what kind of ladies ride these sleds, are passionate about it, etc.. ( maybe get a response like " Wow, that girl seems a lot like me, and look how much fun she is having. Look what she has learned to do on a sled. I wanna do that too!"
3. footage of getting someone unstuck. Show the viewers the lighter side of the situation ( usually we laugh at our buddies and ourselves when we get stuck) Also make it an informative thing ( if we work together, and do this and do that..... we not only overcome a physically strenuous, sometimes mentally challenging situation resulting in a great feeling of accomplishment, but we had fun doing it.)
4. If there is footage of a crash or a really cool maneuver, include a short interview with the rider to capture why it was so exciting to her. If done right, the viewer will naturally feel that excitement, too. ( which is what this is all about, right?!)
5. A mixture of sled noise, bacground noise, with some viewer friendly music (gotta remember the targeted audience when picking music) IMO.
6. And of coarse a little flirting and skin is always a big hit with the male crowd!! wooohoooo!

A couple ideas on how to overcome $$, time, and lack of insane type riding issues:
1. Instead of having the camera/ producer road trip to the girls, have a qualified person in their group get footage and donate it to the cause.
2. Get some tips from the pros to find what camera angles can make a generic carve in a field look really cool. ( We all like carving a doghnut in a virgin field, but after about 6 shots of this on video, it gets monotonous) So spice it up with camera angles, film speed, etc.
3. When you girls are having fun at the Ladies Ride, or even other events, have someone capture the fun on camera. I'm sure there are tons of funny moments you have said to yourself " I wish we woulda had that on tape, it was hilarious!"
4. Not everyone is comfortable being on video in every aspect of the above ideas. So, use footage of the stuff they are comfortable with to get enough footage for a complete vid. Example: Agnes is a very funny lady, but she doesn't ride as good as the other ladies and this is a hang up for her. No worries, just use the footgae of her at the after riding parties. Or: Gertrude loves to do big cornice drops, but is too shy to be on vid without her helmet on. No worries, just include her riding footage.

Anyway, just trying to help:beer; I hope you girls can get a video made that inspires each other to ride better, maybe make a little money and most of all gives you something to watch in the distant future as a reminder of all the great times you are having now rippin' it up!

Little Bob productions...............

Bob, I am not sure if the peeps out there know you are an amature filmaker, and a pretty good one at that. What are you doing, trying to be the producer/editor of all the footage they can get? I know you already have footage of Agnes and Gertrude. Ha Ha. These gals need to get some good footage, and have someone not unlike yourself make it a video. I remember buying a VHS cassette,from a dude at the snoshow a long time ago. He said he was trying to get $10, but would sell it to me for $5. It was called "Snowrock" It blew "Powderbound" away! Anybody remember that? Before that, there weren't any sled videos. -00's

Oh you know I'm always in for a Road Trip, especially when the sleds are following right behind. And I'm always game to bring my vid cam and do alot of filming for you guys!!! I'm by no means a pro at it, but I'm sure somebody could give me some tips on angles and best places to be so I can get some killer footage!!! I kicked myself for not getting very much footage at the LR, it was just so deep and dreamy I couldn't sit still enough to get the camera out alot, plus the weather conditions were not the best either.

I didn't see your pillow fight Darko....fairs fair...lol ! K I hate to age myself but I have been around the film industry for what seems like forever...I definitely have picked up some filming tips and as a rider know how to work with conditions, angles, etc. We know we have a rough road and totally welcome any and all tips and suggestions.
Just got off the phone with Brandy and now she's got me fired up...we both had that tiggle in our tummy's about this season...."something's going to happen!!!!" so we will work at it and hope that something can be pulled together....
Road trips are what life is made of...heck its been way to long since I took the winter off to sled...this could be the year!

A friend of mine made an all womens mountain bike video a few years back that I was lucky enough to be involved with called Dirt Divas. It didn't feature the massive hucks or 50' gaps that the guys do but what it did have was some really solid riding (including some decent sized hucks), some racing footage, a few crashes showing the girls trying sick lines (making most) and interviews with all the riders. It was totally a lifestyle video with a bunch of sweet riding too. The response was fantastic as it was really something different. It was filmed in more of a documentary style and was never intended as competition to the tesosterone fest that some of the videos out there are. It was certainly a fight to get the sponsor dollars to make it but it's always been a fight to get sponsor dollars for women riders.

I'm all for the Sno West pillow fighting league.

Ok, every year I watch these threads and see the 'All Girl Sled Video' topic come up. I don't usually chime in on topics but this one gets me fired up too... lol

I think this would be a great idea and would love to participate. If there is someone willing to donate their time and camera maybe there could be 2-3 different dates and riding spots to meet for filming. If there was a set date and place I think people would show up. I would show up for one in Revy!!

My husband did some filming last year and put it to music, here is the one he did for me on our last day of the season... he did such a great job!

In 31 years of riding, very seldom would we run across another lady riding the back country. We had a select group of gals in the Big Horns that could ride and hang with the boys. I hope that we can get something together and really get more ladies out on the snow. The more people on the snow, the more voices, and hopefully more areas will stay open!!!
