All girl sled video

Last year there was a thread inquiring about who would buy, who could help produce, etc. an all girl sled video. Did that pan out? Anybody make one??

I think Jlowe had some input and interest in making one. I'm gettin' old, though, so my memory may be a bit fuzzy.

If I remember right, most of the talk was about not having enough notable female riders and also the cost of traveling to get to them. I really think the biggest downer was the initial investment to pay a traveling camera crew without knowing if a flick like that would sell enough copies. I sure would like to see it. My wife used to make me buy a movie just because a women had a spot in it. I really think it would push women towards the sport (not only a guy thing). Ladiesride.com has been a great thing for my wife, AKA girlpowder. She's now tearing it up on a MX Bike. Main reason being: she realized that other girls could do it, so why not her. Ride on Ladies.:D

yep, i was talking with brandy, tammy and about 8 others on this idea. i still like the idea...i don't actually remember why it died but getting people to hook up is always the main issue. if we get good snow here in cali, its hard to drive 20 hours north to meet up with everyone. i'm down for trying to do a female riding segment in next year's film if the planets line up or featuring a couple of girl-riders as main players in the movie. lets just hope for a huge winter and lots of good riding and hopefully we can make something happen.

Here's my .02:
Somebody that is already making a movie and spending the money to shoot at a particular location should invite certain ladies from or around that area to come ride for the camera. Then have a 10-15 minute feature in the movie for the Ladies. At a minimal cost I think this would at least produce some feedback. People may say wow that was lame, or Holy Crap that was so cool. So start small, generate feedback and then decide if it's worth the investment.
Gotta start somewhere.

100% right on the money.

The problem as i see it is money. Sure we could film the great lady riders where ever we go (and we do!), but why sell off that footage to someone for an all girl video, when we can throw that in our own videos and attract more audience that way? The better idea would be to pull footage from past videos and compile it a season later and see what response that gets... but then im a selfish greedy pig who loves to have woman riding in our films!!! ;)

well bummer. I was looking forward to a sled chick vid complete with short biography type sections, action shots, funny segments, partyin' segments, nude shots( just kiddin') , etc.

check out jenn berg's segment in boondockers alive, that girl can tear it up on skis and a sled. We are seeing more and more incredibly talented female riders in the videos.

Ditto that!!!!!!!! This girl is a total ripper!!!! On several styles of snow planks!!!!! Her segment gets me pumped!!! That is for sure!!! It even makes me want to get back on a board & do some back country again!!!!!!.....I love the fact Dan caught her multiple talents!!!!

I think there are more excellent women riders out there then you might think.
But the deal is they ride for the passion of riding, they do it because they love it, they dont think they are doing anything special or different because they just ride. More then likely they ride with a group of men and they do what they do, go where they go and think nothing of it. They ride the backwoods, and the bowls, and the meadows where they live. Being in the spotlight doesnt really cross they're mind to much because they are having WAY too much fun just riding.............then occasionally some one notices them and they get recognized for what they can do...........its just tends to be a bigger deal because they are after alll "just a girl". I think its great people are realizing the womenfolk are riding and riding hard...........but there are more of us then one might think.........:face-icon-small-win

I do admit.....I have yet to see a woman on vid ride to the level of Burandt, Potratz, Hastings, Davidoff....ect, ect.
So thats where an all women vid would run into problems................

Why don't you have a halfway spot for the ladies and you to meet at. I'm sure that the ladies from the North will travel halfway to meet up with ya. Heck, I'm driving 10-12 hours to just ride Revy in Thanksgiving. :D

Your right.....but these are the guys that are on the vids.......they are the main act so to speak.........its a very competitive market. Its got to be balls to the wall............figuratively(sp) speaking:D

Holy cream of the crop there RIP! lol Now that video would sell like hotcakes.... women riders of that caliber! HOLY BADASS! lol But, if you are going to shoot for something, might as well shoot for the stars!

Not all of the current video riders are at THAT level. It's the few that really dazzle us and the rest just entertain us. Which is ALL GOOD! I think a video with just THAT kind of talent would take all of the current videos and condense them into one. IMO. So let's not set our standards so high for the ladies that we never get it done! These badass guys all had their start too.....

I think sometimes this is an issue for some ladies. They see the guys climbing the big chutes and don't think that them doing what they do so well will cut the mustard. So why bother trying to film?? This isn't what we want to do, discourage! We want to empower!

There is definitely some great riders out there who could so rock the big screen but have no desire to do so. They just wanna ride. And that is to be HUGELY respected. This goes for both men and women!

...........its just tends to be a bigger deal because they are after alll "just a girl".

Very true. BUT we need to remember that while we get recognized for being a girl, it isn't a bad thing. It is just an added perk! We are a different animal and I think deserve to be looked at in a different way. If you think about the physical and mental differences between men and women on a basic level then we'll realize we can't judge one by or against the other.

So, when talking about an all girl video... I don't like to compare it to the likes of the big dogs out there. Because they didn't all start out climbing the Monster Chute either! By doing an all women's video we are starting at a different level than what the current guys have gotten to!

So............ this is a topic many of you know I'm HUGELY passionate about. But there are so many different road blocks that the rewards seem so much smaller than the effort. I know many of the guys say they film because they enjoy it. THAT is fantastic and I respect that. Since many of the ladies do not live in a "producer's" backyard in order to go film they would have to leave the children at home, grab extra $$$ for the expense of traveling, take the truck and trailer away from the menfolk and hit the road by themselves?? It's a different world that many of these ladies live in, especially the mom's IMO. (I see it every year for the Ladies Ride!) And while not poor, many take a different view on their finances and think about the $$ they'll spend to go film and translate that into 3 or so other weekends closer to home spent riding with family and friends. Or more mods, or more gear. or or or.. lol And others can't just be spontaneous, when that perfect weekend to film comes around, and just head out! It comes down to rationalizing/ justifying it all and many can't/won't do it. (tried to touch on different areas that many of the ladies have expressed to me)

Women are just different animals.

So, a year ago I was fired up about this. I thought it was possible. Reality has set in, atleast for the near future anyhow, and I think we'll just have to be content with a women(s) segment here and there in the videos already out there. We can ask/hope for MORE segments and as RIP says, wish for the game to be stepped up! I think many ladies are done with the novelty of putting women in videos just to do so. We want the cream of the crop, the GOODS! As I said before, we want to be empowered, inspired, enthralled.....

Thanks for reading my book.........

Great post Brandy. I believe your perspective to be spot on. Probably one of those things that sound great on paper, but not very feasible to do in reality.

B Your right on with that! I am so not trying to discourage ladies who wish to film or create a vid of all women. I think it would be awesome to put it together. I just know that from a finacial standpoint....if the vid doesnt sell some body is going to be losing alot of money. When that Vid comes together its got to be great...with women of all levels.........but in order to sell and get the good reviews to sell more there HAS to be high caliber women on that Vid. If one of the current vid producers is interestd in putting together a womens segment featuring a number of ladies........that would be a great jumping off point. Get some feed back.....see what was liked and not liked..........be able to compare riding styles like we can with the men.....the individual womens segment that we see now are great, ladies out there riding with the boys.........But....maybe its time to move to the next level.
And of course, like you said...........we are different creatures. We are less likely to drop everything...leave the kids with dad and say see ya in a few days.........our brains dont always work that way.....
This is a great topic though..........really gets the ladies thinking on what they might do this year. AND.....so many of us ride for our own passions.....filming or staging may feel like we are losing some of the Freeness(is that a word?) we get when we ride............we are more emotional and riding taps into that some times........how it makes us feel, what it does for our state of mind..............Ok getting deep.............HAHA
I'll leave that one to think on..................next?

Looks like you all beat me to it!! Great posts kids...

I REALLY like the thought of getting to know the chicks who ride in films. It seems like women may have just a little different take on things than men do so it would be fun to really get to see some personalities, not just a quick blurb on a chick riding and get her name. I know there are some vids that are getting some interviews on there and I'd like to see more about that.

I dunno that I'm SUPER into an all chick riding film but I'm DEF into seeing more chicks shred it up out there. It seems like the talent I see in the mtns isn't really getting represented in the sledding films, I'm not sure why that is?? Prolly mostly for the reasons Brandy listed and prolly partly due to the fact that this WAS a man's world and we're just now breaking into it... So we do fight the ingrained notion that women can't ride in MANY circles!! Not all, don't get me wrong, I have a ton of people I ride with who think very highly of having chicks out there with them in the backcountry... just sayin'...

Anyway, I think you all touched on the main reasons it hasn't happened and the issues surrounding it. As women, I think what we can do is step up ladies... I SEE that talent, I know it's out there, you ladies just need to be willing to show off a little bit. Women in general are a little LESS into the showboating scene and I think this is why it often isn't known there are hard. You may not know it but talented women riders are out there, probably right in your backyard stealin all the freshies when you're not looking!

I posted something on DooTalk to this affect recently... Ladies, if you don't want to push this industry any further then no worries, do your thing... But I was recently told by a shop owner that they sposored quite a few women riders but I may not know who they are... What?!! Isn't the point that if you sponsor someone then they are known, so that they can represent your product? If you are representing someone then get out there and represent! Don't be shy, step up your game and don't be afraid to say, hey, watch this!! You may screw it up but most people in this industry aren't NEARLY as judgemental as you think, so GO FOR IT! Ya, you might have the whispering behind hands if you don't pull it off seamlessly but hey, at least you tried it!!! (while those whispering sit at the bottom and judge you're futhering your skills and this sport!)

Let's go ladies, if you want to get out there and ride hard, let's do it. There are products MADE for us now and sleds that respond to us (I never had that problem before being a 'bigger' girl but I know some skinny minis who did!!) The market is open, the barriers are about broken down. If you're gettin filmed, with all chicks or with dudes, HIT IT HARD, and let's show this industry we can RIDE!!!

Well I know..I never post on here...don't know why but this one got my attention for many reasons. Brandy, you know how I feel about this topic too and last year or maybe longer we both wanted to make this happen so bad and your post states it perfectly. I know there are SO many women who tear it up at their own levels. I love seeing it, I love the reaction of the guys and I love the excitement the ladies share after a great climb, drop, jump, etc ! I want to see this happen and was willing to fork up some cash to try and make it work...but I'm just one person and more are needed for sure.
I have been fortunate to be able to ride in a lot of different areas in North America and the Ladies know I have no problem driving and driving and driving to get to some amazing places and while at those places I get to see amazing women rip!. The quality is there, we know that, its just getting someone to see us and invest in us. I'm so excited to see so many girls in the vid''s now and it gives me goosebumps everytime....
So we stay content and share the screen with the guys which is GREAT in my opinion but it would sort be epic to see us girls all in our own elements, own riding styles, doing what we love to do at our levels in our own video. The day could come......
