Looks like you all beat me to it!! Great posts kids...
I REALLY like the thought of getting to know the chicks who ride in films. It seems like women may have just a little different take on things than men do so it would be fun to really get to see some personalities, not just a quick blurb on a chick riding and get her name. I know there are some vids that are getting some interviews on there and I'd like to see more about that.
I dunno that I'm SUPER into an all chick riding film but I'm DEF into seeing more chicks shred it up out there. It seems like the talent I see in the mtns isn't really getting represented in the sledding films, I'm not sure why that is?? Prolly mostly for the reasons Brandy listed and prolly partly due to the fact that this WAS a man's world and we're just now breaking into it... So we do fight the ingrained notion that women can't ride in MANY circles!! Not all, don't get me wrong, I have a ton of people I ride with who think very highly of having chicks out there with them in the backcountry... just sayin'...
Anyway, I think you all touched on the main reasons it hasn't happened and the issues surrounding it. As women, I think what we can do is step up ladies... I SEE that talent, I know it's out there, you ladies just need to be willing to show off a little bit. Women in general are a little LESS into the showboating scene and I think this is why it often isn't known there are hard. You may not know it but talented women riders are out there, probably right in your backyard stealin all the freshies when you're not looking!
I posted something on DooTalk to this affect recently... Ladies, if you don't want to push this industry any further then no worries, do your thing... But I was recently told by a shop owner that they sposored quite a few women riders but I may not know who they are... What?!! Isn't the point that if you sponsor someone then they are known, so that they can represent your product? If you are representing someone then get out there and represent! Don't be shy, step up your game and don't be afraid to say, hey, watch this!! You may screw it up but most people in this industry aren't NEARLY as judgemental as you think, so GO FOR IT! Ya, you might have the whispering behind hands if you don't pull it off seamlessly but hey, at least you tried it!!! (while those whispering sit at the bottom and judge you're futhering your skills and this sport!)
Let's go ladies, if you want to get out there and ride hard, let's do it. There are products MADE for us now and sleds that respond to us (I never had that problem before being a 'bigger' girl but I know some skinny minis who did!!) The market is open, the barriers are about broken down. If you're gettin filmed, with all chicks or with dudes, HIT IT HARD, and let's show this industry we can RIDE!!!
