Alaska Road Traveler Information Website

I used it all the time when I was driving from Fairbanks to the valley the past few years. Its nice to read the conditions and then look at the cameras to really see the roads. I wish they would keep the site updated and running. The cameras are good for snow conditions for riding as well.

FYI for everyone who's interested -

I work for the company that has the contract to maintain the power systems that operate the off-grid Road Weather Information System (RWIS) sites which include the Turnagain Pass (MP 69.9 Seward Hwy), Jean Lake Hill (MP 62.3 Sterling Hwy), and Divide (MP 12 Seward Hwy) sites on the Kenai Peninsula and all three of these sites should be up very soon, hopefully within a week. Turnagain has had "access" problems (too much snow) to get into the site - all you guys that are getting stuck 50ft. from the parking lot imagine trying to go 1.5 miles with 200lbs. of tools & gear through the same snow. The state doesn't plow the direct access road in the winter, we have to "put in" at the rest area like everyone else. Jean Lake Hill and Divide still need to be plowed out too and we will get them up and running as well. Check out the direct link to these cameras here:

I dont know when you guys got the contract, but the turnagain cameras have been down for around a year and a half i believe. Any ways it will be nice to have them back up.

Just got them, the sites were operated by another company and the SOA took over operation early this year. The specifics of the work took a while (months) to hash out but the sites should be up soon.

Another Update

The one week time line is too optimistic as it turns out. There are more problems than anticipated (go figure). I'll continue to post updates here as we discover more for those that are interested.
