air box baffle?

Has anyone done any dyno tests to see if gutting the air box on the 800 is worth it or not. I tried mine on the snow and it definately leans it out some. With fuel injected sled the only way it can lean it is if it is getting more air. I had to run it with the ethanol wires unplugged to keep the det light form coming on. 2010 800 dragon, slp pipe anf Vforce reeds. Thoughts?

When I built the 860 last year Carl's said they had tested a bunch with and without the airbox gutted and that they got better performance with the guts still in it.

if you gut the airbox it will mess with the way the air temp sensor reads tempature, the sensor is designed to sit in stagnit air or very little wind, with the guts removed the sensor will see colder air due to the air rushing past the sensor and it will run poorly.

Why not build a little box for the temp sensor to sit in and then gut the box?

Just asking....

Box is a piece of crap anyways, has gaps around the entire seal and sucks in air from everywhere. Gorilla taped all the seams yesterday.

if that box was connected to the air box so the sensor was seeing the cold air temp and not under hood temp, I think there is something to the baffles though, not sure what.

I have seen three 3/4" holes drilled across the middle of the baffle plate and didn't seem to affect how the sled ran

I can see the moving air screwing with the temp sensor but if anything it should run richer. On this sled it runs leaner with the baffle out. The only way to run leaner on a fule injected sled would be if it is getting more air. I have a pwrcmd so I can richen it up if I want.

i took my baffle out lastyear mine ran really rich stock kept fouling plugs i took the baffle out ran crisper and didnt foul a plug after that so obviously there is more power to be gained, you cant just take it out and expect more power unless your already running rich, hmmm seems iam not the only one who has exsperinced a lean condidtion can alway go with what everybody tells you somethings you just gotta try for yourself
