Aftermarket Steering Post Options?

Broke the steering post on my 08 M1000 this weekend and wondering what my options are. I know fastlanes has a chromoly post but they want $200 for it which seems a little steep. I don't really want to buy another cat post considering they are junk and I will just break another one. I did a search but nothing turned up so any information would be great.

we take the stock post and and run a 8 inch tube down them from the top..and weld them up. a local welding shop does it for the us!!! nothing real heavy but just enough so they dont break

I think I may do the same considering my options seem to be very limited. I am suprised more aftermarket options arn't available considering the quality of the AC post. Everybody that I ride with has bent their post a time or two and it won't be long before they twist it in half like I did.

Wasn't bdx working on a chrome molly adjustable, what ever happened with that. The stock post suck.

Yes we wil have a new adjustable steering post available in September which is stronger and lighter than the stock unit. It will be on the web site later this week. It also comes with our exclusive Max bearing support which takes 40% of the concentrated load forces away from the steering post. Keep visiting our web page as all of our new 2010 product is being put on shortly. WWW.bd-xtreme.com

MPM did the same thing for my post, it has taken a few nasty hits since then & is still perfect.

How much?

We've had 3 break in our group. Like Graveler and Backcountry, I've taken mine to the local weld shop and had sleeves wraped around the weak part. If the crack is clean enough you can salvage the broken one this way and if done right it will be stronger than it was before it broke. Sor far the 3 I've seen done this way are holding up better than the stock POS, but excited to hear BD will soon have theirs ready!

But will bdx's be worth it over a cheap stronger fix which wouldn't cost me anything and I don't really have a use for adjustable posts, but something stronger and lighter for the right price would draw my attention.

Where are they breaking at ?

Right below where the dissimilar metals are welded together, the thinner tube bends & often snaps.

The only bummer is that if I recall the only way to reinforce this spot is to cut the post in the first place to drop in a piece of metal.
