Aftermarket entrepreneurs should relocate to AK

The economy is tough and yet the guys making stuff to make our sleds better can't keep up with orders. Somebody has a good idea, mocks up a few prototypes for their friends to test, makes some refinements and then the word gets out and before you know it they're quitting their job to keep up with demand. Then, because they make a good product at a fair price they blow up and demand far outstrips production.

Then orders don't get filled fast enough and rumors of financial trouble spread like wilefahr!

Lots of new ventures face the growth vs capital paradox

If you have one of these budding little gold mines of aftermarket excellence you should move to Alaska. Seriously, and here's why:

-The riding season (most years) is November through mid-May
-The riding areas reach epic proportions (for field testing, of course)
-Powder riding close to sea level
-One of the highest snowmobiles per household states
-Anchorage is a major shipping hub
-No state sales tax (local sales tax in some towns)
-No state income tax

and last but not least (seriously)
-The President and officers of the largest bank in Alaska are HUGE snowmachiners. Other bankers play golf--these guys ride. The Pres is 60 and a talented mountain rider in his own right. So if a snowmobiling aftermarket company was struggling to expand for a lack of capital...they would find sympathetic ears at this bank.

Oh, and the fishing is pretty good too.

Yeah, but when the postal service goes under then shipping costs to/from AK are going to get ugly. ;)

Sounds like a business plan to me take it to those bankers ! Its a sure thing

I thought it was all Eskimos and penguins.

Wrong hemisphere for penguins.

So when are you moving up? Hatcher's allotted slot is still vacant, but you'll need proof that you are a Eskimo because that is all we have up here. :face-icon-small-ton

Exactly. Very few items in the sled world aftermarket are patented... go to the bankers, have them fund a setup and start dupping the stuff made in the lower 48 that is backordered or not available in a timely manner.
