After tipped on right side or upside down, how long to wait until oil drains backdown

Just wondering, new to the Nytros this year and have seen a couple of posts of where engines have being taken out cause they run upside down or whatever.

Is there an oil pressure light that comes on if oil isn't back in the pan? What if you just start it up and start riding again after you flip it upright?

Input would be great. Thanks

If you tip it on it's right side it will probably be fine. The left side or upside down is the real problem. Once you get it right side up it will only take a few seconds to get whatever oil is going to go back into the tank back in. It does have an oil pressure light and the dipstick doubles as a low oil level indicator. Be advised if the low oil level indicator comes on you have to cycle the key to get it to go off. It does not go off on its own even if the switch is no longer showing low oil.

My two cents, save yourself a lot of grief and get a rollover tether from Scott at OFT. The tether is awesome and the shut off valve that it comes with works great.

I have a roll over valve and it works great. The oil light will still come on if the sled has been upside down. Maybe the dipstick also acts as a high oil level too...not sure. The light will go out after a couple of minutes of riding so I never worry about it.

I've got a roll over valve installed, but that won't prevent oil draining to the top end if upside down. But, I believe o have my answer, thanks guys.

Get it on its track and wait a bit. Like 30-60 seconds and fire it. Watch for oil light. If it comes on I shut it off and wait again. If you see oil on snow better pull plastic and check level. I carry 500ml just in case. Other than that no worries.

If you see oil on the snow and its been on its left side check and clean your clutches before starting up or you'll be buying a new belt as well.

My favorite is when the oil runs all over the clutches, belt and spare belt. Need to pack some brake clean.

Typically I do the same as others, flip it over, wait a while, crank it let it run a few seconds, shut it down, then fire it up after awhile and see if codes/lights come on.

I always wear a tether but things can still happen. Get if shut off and flipped upright ASAP.

Does the Nytro not instantly shut off with lack of oil pressure and coolant ? Ive had my apex upside down chugging away a million times. When i took the bulkhead out last year the oil cooler and oil filter started to come undone because the steering was jammed into them. The split second it lost coolant and oil pressure it shut off. No damage done.

Thistle in your case it was wound to the hills when it was upside down was it not ? Can you really take a motor out if it is idling upside down for 15-20 seconds until the oil pressure loss ? I would think the bottom bearings would stay lubed for a small time period with out constant oil pressure no ? Maybe not at high rpm. What are the thoughts ? I just go by what i see on my own machine.

Tether is the way to go for sure, but if its upside down the tether will not do anything for flow inside the engine other than cutting the engine when falling off and preventing a Exxon Valdez all over the ground !

OK, left side oil potentially will leak out( I have a roll over valvew), but I was told if on the right side you could air lock the oil pump?

Or is that the left side too, and how big a problem is it?

Too many issues with high HP sleds in the past, just want to make sure I am watching for potential hazardess situations.

Very little oil sits in the engine itself. Most of the oil sits in the tank on the side of the engine. So when it is rolled over there is not much going up into the engine, most of it will be stopped by being in the oil tank on the side of the motor.

Tired of your engine oil recycling itself through the airbox and out the tailpipe? Rolling any dry sump 4 stroke Yamaha generally yields that result...

[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]The patent pending Jacobson roll-over oil valve kit is designed to prevent engine oil loss during a roll over event of Yamaha 4 stroke snowmobiles, and has now been integrated into OFT Racing's "Moto-R Kill" tether system.

[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]The OFT Racing “Moto-r Kill w/ Jacobson Roll-over valve" (patent pending) will take care of this problem, while also providing you with a top of the line engine kill tether system. In addition, our kit plugs directly into the factory wiring harness with no slicing and dicing of your OEM wiring harness!!

We have designed this kit using OEM Yamaha weatherproof connections and a completely sealed Bosch style relay and connector. Installation of the OFT Moto-R Kill w/ Jake Valve is nothing short of idiot proof! Unplug the OEM harness, plug in the OFT Moto-R Kill harness, and install the Jake valve in-line on the oil tank vent. If for some reason you need to remove or bypass the tether kit, changing the sled back to stock form is as easy as unplugging one or two connectors and plugging them back in to the OEM harness. The Jake valve will remain in a "flow through" open position.

Designed to compete with, and surpass more expensive competitors products, The Moto-r Kill w/ Jake Valve kit features the race-ready and off-road proven tee handled Pro Armor kill switch assembly. The Pro Armor switch provides extremely easy "gloves on" operation, and bullet proof, all weather performance. With Pro Armor’s positive clip latching, you never need to worry about a cheap “rubber plug” not seating or trying to thread a needle sized clip through a pinhole with your thick gloves on as with our competitors.

The tether switch will mount on either 7/8", or 1-1/8" handle bars, and the kit includes a "test plug" that will allow you to disable the red OEM handlebar mounted kill switch.

The one thing I would say about using your rollover valve is to bypass the handlebar mounted kill switch. I left mine in the system at first. Herein lies the problem. The key has to be on and the kill switch pulled up in order for the rollover valve to work. I had the problem numerous times where the sled would roll and push the kill switch down, and disable or open the rollover valve.

So in my opinion make sure that you bypass the kill switch.

This kit should come stock on every new Yamaha sled IMHO.

Hey guys, does anybody have pic of rollover valve kit installed on a MCX Nytro? Not much room with the turbo line plumbed into roughly the same position! Cheers
