Aerocharger and Team Ind. clutch notes

We got a call from Jason at Team Industries with a request to meet with us somewhere and see if he can improve our clutching. I am not sure he finished his sentence before I accepted and asked when and where? We met in Island Park, ID for four days of testing. In attendance was Jason (Research and development for Team) Andrew Dey (Lead Application Engineer, Aerocharger), myself and a guy named Ray that has the coolest cabin to work out of in Island Park.
As you can imagine, in four days we tried a lot of things including many custom ground parts. We were testing with a Turbo PRO-RMK and a Turbo E-TEC. At the end of the day here is what we came up with:

2011 Polaris PRO-RMK 155” 10psi non-intercooled 6500’ 0-10degrees F, 170lbs rider
1.95 Gearing
165-310 Primary Spring
11-70 Weights
Tied Secondary
Helix 60-66F
140-240 Red Black Secondary Spring

2011 SKI-DOO Summit X 154” 5.5psi non-intercooled 0-10degrees F, 170lbs rider
Stock 21/49 Gears
160-320 Primary Spring
441 Ramp Clicker #3
20gr Pin Weight
Tied Secondary
Helix 62-66 .36
140/260 Red/Pink Secondary Spring
This was a great boondocking set up!

2011 SKI-DOO Summit X - all the same except 10psi
Stock 21/49 Gearing
160-260 Primary Spring
441 Ramp Clicker #3
20gr Pin Weight
67 Straight Helix
140/260 Red/Pink Secondary Spring
This set-up was for the more aggressive rider or RMSHA racer
We wanted to try a 62-68F Helix but it was in the PRO-RMK most of the time.

Please keep in mind this is what we found to work well for these sleds. If you have a different turbo kit, track length or rider weight the set-up may need to change. I hope this is helpful and gives you some insight as to how the Tied from Team may be able to help your application.

Thank You!! Jason for your time and it is great now to “know a guy” for clutching.

Jason told me he had a blast riding the Aero Charged sleds and we were very happy with the results from the trip. He also had a chance to ride with the Snowest crew testing non-boosted stuff. Very good results there, too.

Look for the article to come out early next year.

brad, did you try any higher start numbers with the primary springs, would it not be a quicker spool with a higher rate over a lower force, on the etec

thanks fred

I went as high as a 230 start, it does come up quicker but tough to find a good spring with that high preload and a low final compression load.

hmm no offense but how do you expect to run the same set up as a stock xp 800r on a boosted etec? I had bad luck with the suggested setup had to up the secondary spring to a much heavier one to get it to back shift. I guess the setups not identical it runs more weight but other than that the same

yes i also found the stock gearing to be to low, i would be over the 1 to 1 ratio on a climb with track speed

went to the 23/49 and its much better, went with the 415 ramps over the the 441, running 22.5 grams

Seems like no two sleds are identical. We run a much different setup on a stock 800 compared to what we posted for a boosted set up. What was different on the set up you tried? Not to say we could not do something different, just want honest feedback!

doo makes a 200/290 (grn/blue)...goodwin perf makes a 200/280 (grn) and some guys called TEAM??? makes a 200/290 (yel/red) primary spring....:face-icon-small-win-LOL-BJ

I am running a 160/320 primary spring, 66/60 helix 180/280 spring, 15.1g pin weight. dj mountain ramps. this is on an n/a sled. works good. 6-8000 ft might try the 180/300 spring. sled has a high comp head 13.5:1, SPI pipe and rage cage reeds
