advantages of zr A-arms

i have read about using zr A arms. what im wondering is, can you get more travel out of zr arms using the right shock? any one that has used this setup can you post pics and advice before i go out and spend money. thanks

I will give it a try to give you some info, hope it isn't too confusing. I have trouble keeping it straight myself.
The 1998 and 99 ZR had a 41" ski stance, the arms and shocks will fit on a 1M but won't give you much additional travel. The 2000 and newer ones had a 43" stance and longer shocks and probably would give a little more travel. For a mountain sled I don't like the wider ski stance but some do, I guess it depends on how thick the trees are where you ride. Both setups will be heavier than the stock 1M suspension, both arms and shocks are heavier.
Hope this helps.

ive done several swaps, most people dont like the way the 1M goes down the trail, the 43" stance greatly improves handling of these sleds. Second with the ZR shocks you get better valving IMO over the mtn shocks, they jump and handle WAY better, less bottoming out, more travel, and if you go a step further and do the snopro ZR package then you get remote resi's and slightly stiffer valving yet along with dual rate springs, best setup for the money IMO! Use the 1M spindles and you can still adjust ski stance from 42-44" and they are a bit lighter than the ZR spindles obviously.

And you can still sidehill just fine IMO!!!

thanks guys, snopro stuff sounds like what im looking for! quick question, could i get fox air shocks for a snopro and use them on the mountain cat with the zr stuff?

The snopro floats are too long for ZR 43" arms. They make the arms drop so far that the spindles tip in (too much camber).
Another option (if you can find them) is a set of KTX/Black Magic arms. I have the 41" version on my sled, and they give 11.5" of travel.

O i did! Off the top of my head i can't remember the eye to eye size,But the M floats i think where 17.5 eye to eye and the ZRs are 18 i believe..Alot of the guy's over on arcticchat are doing the same thing to there zr's. I ran them on the sled for 2 seasons(sold the sled this summer).
