Aditional Cooling on a Boosted Nytro?

Question:

What are the options for additional cooling on a Boosted Nytro?

1. The Radiator/Fan combo that is OEM looks pretty much fixed as-is.
Can't see any way of getting more out of that?

2. The heat exchanger in the bulkhead looks unmodifiable as well?

3. That leaves the tunnel heat exchanger as the best/only target for upgrade??

Here is the option I went with this year for my N/A sled. It is from Van Amberg Enterprises and was designed for boosted applications and to fit into the stock tunnel I cant say how it works because since I am installing it as we speak. I mainly bought it to get rid of the inefficient radiator and move some weight to the back of the sled and lower the weight at the same time. the kit is relatively lite. The only issue I have so far is I am running a timber sled skid and there are some mounting hardware for the drop brackets that me pose a problem. I wont know for sure until I really dig into the install. Since the only show we have around Tahoe is man made I still have some time but it never fails once you have your sled apart it will dump. there is a storm rolling it but the local forecast is for 2-4 inches which usually means we get a dusting of snow

Van Amburg all the way. I did this last year on my turbo and never had any over-heating issues again. Also this cooler allows you to run a rear mount turbo, or a air/water inter-cooler setup as I have.

I highly recommend it:face-icon-small-coo

Do you still have the front cooler or did you do the delete kit?

That one certainly looks like it would work with my Skinz Under Tunnel Exhaust.

I am guessing that with the MPI Tunnel Coolers there is just NO reason to leave the fan cooled radiator in place any more.

The amount of cooling those two long Tunnel Coolers offer has to be HUGE..?

I had the same problems with my stage 2 S/C, couldn't keep it cool no matter what I tried. I did the radiator delete WITH the MPI extended coolers & ended up seeing my temp go to the 150/165 range. Before the extended coolers couldn't keep water temps below 200!!
Be VERY, VERY carful as high heat WILL destroy these motors..... If you don't believe me I'll show you the receipt for rebuilding one of these motors:face-icon-small-con

One of the great things about the MPI coolers is it moves more weight farther back/down on the Nytro which it needs greatly.

so you saw a 35+ degree drop in temp!!

Yes a easy 35+ degree drop! But I also forgot one problem. I couldn't run EZ Ryde rear skid with a 3" track with these coolers. If you ever think your going to run the BIG track I'd go with a custom double pass rear cooler.

yama

where did you put your water temp sensor? off the tstat housing? just curious thanks

Not exactly sure, I had a shop do all the work. I'm pretty sure it was close to the tstat housing.

I have a CR tunnel with coolent flowing through the running boards and then through a rear tunnel exchanger. The surface area looks similar to the van Amberg picture, so I think this would provide plenty of cooling. Seems like install would be easy as it just replaces the small OEM cooler. If it were me, I would not delete the rad or fan. In marginal / icy snow conditions, or having to ride on gravel in the spring, the radiator removes a lot of the heat. My fan has cut in on warmer days heading up a crappy trail in the spring.

Ya, I am a bit concerned with clearance.
Between the KMOD suspension which sits higher in the tunnel and the Skinz under tunnel exhaust I have to be careful what I try and stuff up in there! :face-icon-small-hap

My track touches the tip of my muffer right now. You can see where it has cut a line in the track from repeated impacts. It was find before the KMOD was installed, but that suspension sits just high enough up in the track that when it is fully compressed it touches the exhaust tip.

As you can see in this photo there is some room on the right side of the tunnel, but not much at all on the left side.
And you can also see where the track is already touching the muffler.

Now my question becomes WHERE does the Van Amberg unit mount?
Does it sit in front of or behind that rear support bracket?
If it mounts BEHIND it, then it would fit PERFECTLY!!
If it mounts BEFORE it, then that rules it out.

My old stage 2 supercharged Nytro had radiator delete and MPI tunnel exchangers and never overheated even in spring riding without scratchers.

MPI sent me this note.

Our tunnel coolers hang down 3.25" from the top of the tunnel

So I will have to go out and take some measurements to see just how far down that muffler is hanging.

Yes it will. I also have deleted my radiator and fan and you can run a 3 inch track if you prefer. The Van Amburg is actually quite the large cooler. I will take some pictures and measurements for you as soon as I finish my 6 pack of beer:face-icon-small-coo
