Adding oil to first tank

If there truly is a "break in" period in the computer and the oil pump is also controlled by it makes no sense to have to add oil. Shouldn't the break in program be doing this? Or maybe the break in program is more of a myth than an actual fact?

Any chance that some of you having problems added a quart of oil to the first tank after the dealer already added a quart before you picked it up. That would be a 1/2 gallon of oil to ten gallons of gas plus the Extra from the pump, that's alot of oil:face-icon-small-sho

My dealer added the litre before I picked it up. Mine has ran perfect. Maybe this is the case

I see you haven't spent much time talking with Polaris "customer service" about warranty issues lately...

Good Luck

I would like to see Polaris prove that you never put that quart of oil in lol. impossible. plus if you have a good dealer its no problem as you never deal with Polaris warranty direct anyways.

The mineral oil is better to seat the rings. And it gives a chance for all the air bubbles to get worked out

Except the oil tanks come with VES synthetic and they tell you to put synthetic in the fuel tank as well..

Dealer says switching to nonethanol mode right away helps. Runs a little richer in ethanol mode. I'd still have spare plugs though.

Put on 45km yesterday and I added the litter to the tank sled was not boggy just left a 20' oil mark in the snow when punching it. And oil stain on my orange tunnel and right side panel. But sled feels awesome and pulls nice very happy.

My dealer puts 2-1/2 gallons of heavy premix in the tank. I added a half pint of oil for good measure.....Ran like a new sled. Should be better the second time out, and even better the third. I'd rather run rich at first and have an engine that will last a long time without issues. Very easy and cheap insurance, no reason to not to do it really.

Well mine fouled the plugs twice in the first ten miles.... That is too much and just unnecessary. I survived it and am halfway through the 18 hr break in now.

My concern is that two strokes don't just like gas and oil during break in, they like it all the time. Hopefully they didn't lean them out too much for EPA after the break in periods. It would be REALLY nice to get two full seasons from a top end again...

Is anyone draining the VES and running mineral oil for break-in?

My dealer put some mixed gas in mine (not much). I will not put any additional oil in it when I fuel it up with non ethanol fuel. The break in mode is running them rich for the first 2.5 hours too. I don't see why we need to add any additional oil to the equation. It is overkill in my opinion. Two of my friends have run through their break in without adding any oil in the gas which I think is a bad idea anyway. Why do you want to run mixed fuel through the injectors. If Polaris is recommending it, they are just being ultra cautious. Fouled plugs should not happen with a modern fuel injected electronically controlled two stroke motor. If it burns down, it is not because you did not put oil in the gas tank. It is because it was not right to start with. I will run mine in the ethanol mode for the first couple of hours and then switch it. This is the same way I ran my 11 and 13 Pro sleds. I never had a problem with either one of them.

I ran Polaris Blue mixed in the gas tank but VES in the oil tank. I don't think you wan to run non synthetic through the bottom end, at least that is what I am reading from probably the best Polaris engine builder ever.

IMO the oil in the gas is also there for a fail safe in case the oil pump has bubbles in the line or the oil pump is not working properly. if you have no oil in the gas you will know real quick if the pump is not working.

Ran first tank with 1 qt oil in gas as recommended. Ran fine, no fouled plugs, just smoked a little more.

I've ran nothing but mineral oil in the oil tank. Fresh motor break-ins, always added Polaris blue or similar to the gas for the first tank. Never had an engine problem. Jmo

I'll be pulling the VES oil out before my first ride. Everyone has a different theory on what oil to burn. It's like, should I have short or tall bars.

I use extra virgin olive oil. Good for my sled and good for my heart. :face-icon-small-dis
Seriously? I do what Polaris told my dealer to do which is what my dealer told me to do. Polaris is not stupid. Either way, plugs and oil are cheap compared to a melt down whether it's under warranty or not. $.02
