Adding oil to first tank

Added a liter of oil to my first tank like my little card on my gas tank told me to and ended up fouling a plug. So if my tank is at 40:1 and my oil injection pump is running even richer for break in that is just way too much oil. I suggest having spare plugs as yesterday both sleds that were out had this happen.

A guy in CO had the same issue. On my second day out yesterday my sled bogged down a few times when I started riding. Cleaned up after that and ran great the rest of the day.

Good to know it wasn't just me! The whole thing is my fault, I jinxed it by posting that you don't really need to carry extra plugs. I paid by having to burn one dry with a bic lighter, which is not as effective as I remember...LOL

They are running pretty fat, you have to stay on it and carry spare plugs. I am 10 miles and 1.4 hours in. Hoping to knock out the rest next weekend and hopefully it will clear up after that.

^ I would probably top off with a little gas to cut down on the oil ratio slightly if it's fouling plugs. that seems excessive.

Yep, planning to cut it with a couple gallons. The road planned for the next ride is more wide open, should be easy to stay on it and carry some speed.

I will be packing my MAP torch in the tunnel bag too. Makes short work of fouled plugs.

Wouldn't spare plugs be easier to carry? ;)

Typically, I've only done 100:1 in my first tank. If it seizes Polaris is liable.

Ran mine about 20 miles. Yep, it's rich. Even hard to start at times. Just do it and get through it. Extra plugs is a good idea.

My dealer all ready had the extra oil dumped in the tank so I filled the tank all the way full with fresh gas.

Another thing to keep in mind, you go through a BUNCH of oil the first 2.5 hours. I had my oil tank a little over 1/2 full and the low oil light came on in 40 miles and it was down to the add mark. Eric

"May" is their way of saying that it actually won't void it, but we would like you to add it anyway.

Also noticed that the belt holder under the hood has a spot for spare plugs.

Why not just do it? You only suffer through one tank of full for break in. Perhaps they know something you don't and found this was the best way to ensure a reliable motor. Losing a motor in the back country doesn't sound fun (never happened to me in 6 new Poo sleds). I have 20 miles on my Axys and it's not that bad, just boggy and smokey.

If anything a guy could mix the first couple gallons at 40:1. Ride for a few miles to make sure the oiler is working, then top off with fuel. The 40:1 mix is to prevent failure due to an air bubble or malfunction with the oil line/pump. They are already adding extra oil throughout the break in process, i see no point in fouling plugs and having the sled run poorly if it is preventable. Just my opinion.

Well, who knew before we tried it? The same thing worked fine on my last two Pro's.

I have a plan to prevent it now. I went through half the tank of 40:1, I am going to cut it with 2-3 more gallons and ride in an area where I can run the sled more aggressively. Yes, preventable, if you know there is going to be a problem...

Exactly, couldn't have known until someone tried. Now we know. Now we can prevent it.

Any chance that some of you having problems added a quart of oil to the first tank after the dealer already added a quart before you picked it up. That would be a 1/2 gallon of oil to ten gallons of gas plus the Extra from the pump, that's alot of oil:face-icon-small-sho
