That's a good idea. I've been thinking that could take a hit the way it's exposed.

This can definitely happen, especially during early season riding. We had one member in our group come down on a rock and bend the hell out of his kit and the chain case cover. He was able to true it for the next ride, but it's easier to bend than you think.

Good idea with the extra protection!

Should be mounted to more than the just the cover. Can you extend to protect the cover from getting wrecked if major impact?

The more solid its mounted, the more the impact is transmitted to other parts. An impact with a rock could also bend the tunnel side.

I was waiting for that. LOL, What would they be worth?

An honest quote figure would be to take cost of metal
Then divide your time to build at a shops rate of 60 bucks an hour. So it shouldn't be more then 30-40 bucks pending daily rate of aluminum stock. But then someone with a fancy shop would charge $100 bucks and still make a killing.

Your guard is nice and wish I had the tools to build one. If you do decide to produce please do post.

Only question, can you go a gauge lower account weight.

Well good luck finding a fab shop around here where I live (oil country) who will work for 60 bucks an hour. In answer to your question yes it would be easy enough to make it out of 1/8 but as it stands now it really doesn't weigh hardy anything and you will never feel any difference so might just as well have the added protection at least thats my thoughts. I'll weigh the next one (my buddies LOL) but I'm sure it'll be less than a lb. As for the mounting I thought basically this is just to spread any impact over a larger surface area, so any impact will be transfered across the entire bottom as opposed to a point impact or big gouge, the bolts are just there to keep it in place. If you smack something hard enough to need more attachment you're gonna have other issues as well. JMO
