Accidents happen

Hi, Just wondering if you are needing film of an accident that happened to me last Saturday up Rock Candy, in the Yaak, MT. I ended up breaking my back. Rode out, got checked out in Libby, and transported to Kalispell where I underwent surgey. I am walking with the aid of walkers and turtle shell supports. Only reason I am writng is to hopefully pass on to other rookie snowmobilers, to be careful. This accident will likely force me to quit snowmobiling altogether. Not that I want to.....

post it up for all to see

here is our broken back victim of this years sledding...boondock

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FZy2XGgR10

burst fracture, compression fracture...now new and improved back with plate and screws

Sounds painful! Ouch. Heal up good, you'll be riding next winter again.

Sledding's dangerous, do what you can to keep it safe... helmet, tekvest, knee protection goes a long way...

What is really scary about it is that you looked good. It looked like a pretty normal cornice drop.

Makes me think twice about doing any more myself.

I am really sorry to hear how bad you were hurt and I hope you heal up quickly.

Bummer another cornice drop victim huh :(

Just never know.... Mine looks fine in normal speed until it is slowed down. So bright out it doesn't look like I saw the landing. So vs my feeting taking the impact my back did.
I am almost at the 4 week mark since surgery and be ready for some tough nights.

PM me if you have any questions.
Hope you heal up quick.

Tim i fractured my L 1 in revy i thought i was goig to die right there i did end up riding my sled out but it was not good (area 51) . It's still not good but i power through the pain . Good luck to you man and if you can ,get back on the horse that bucked you off.

My wife did the same thing dropping a cornice back in Jan of 97. She landed well, everthing looked fine, til she rolled off her sled and layed on the ground crying. We all thought it was just a stinger, turns out she broke L1. Hope you heal soon. My wife still loves riding, just doesn't drop cornices anymore. Have to admit that day crosses my mind everytime I drop something these days too.

I am done with cornice drops as well. I've been doing them for 15+ years and had one go bad 3 weeks ago. Not really all that bad....landed just a tad steep, bars slipped forward and I went over the front. Sled caught my right leg and destroyed my knee. Had to be life flighted back. 1 Surgery down, 1 more to go in about 6 weeks. Doc says I'll be driving in one more month and golfing by August. I'm betting even without lifeflight the total medical bills are going to be close to 100k. Like I said, its been 3 weeks and my knee is still the size of a basketball.

Wow,

I am amazed at how many people have been hurt from cornice drops. I have hit hard before and been in pain but it was when I hit a hard landing expecting a soft one.

I am sitting here, thinking about how many of you have broken your backs thinking maybe I just do ot need to do any more cornice drops.

There is so much fun to be had riding snowmobiles with or without cornice drops. Broken back does not sound good to me.

Trust me it is not! I have done countless cornice drops and quite a bit bigger than the one that got me. Just didn't work out...
Wouldn't recommend it to anyone
