ABS packs - Just too much $$$$$$ for me this year again.

Simple fact is the BCA pack will drive the price down on the competition regardless of what they claim it costs to build. And if that sways more people to buy them (which it will) its a great thing.

Just a little food for thought here. I now know of two sledders who were equipped with ABS Bags and were caught in avalanches. Neither had the mind control to deploy the bag in the violence of the avalanche. How many equipped with the bag actually have the mind control to deploy it. Both that were in the avalanches survived and when asked why they didn't deploy, they mentioned that s%*t happened so quickly the bag never even crossed their mind.

Kinda what I was thinking, kids probably won't pull the cord so why buy them bags. I'd consider one for me and one for Mom but in my situation, if I were in avy territory with my little kids, I'd be there for my riding pleasure not theirs. We'll have our fun in the meadows watching the kids learn how to ride, when they're teens they can decide if they want to ride the steep and deep with Dad and We'll buy the gear or we won't go.

In my opinion, Washington has so much fun/safe terrain for family riding and has a snow pack that is much more stable than other places. With some good training and common sense you can get the gang out there safely and not need ABS packs.

If you're getting out 80+ times/year I'm sure it isn't with the family every time and you're probably riding in trickier terrain. Get one for yourself now and when the price comes down start to outfit the more daring family memebers.
