About to buy 08 D8 need advice

About to buy a 2008 D8 for 6200

It has 900 miles.

How much heavier is the D8 vs the D7? I used to ride an 05 900 so that is what I am use to. Although I got rid of it because I always thought the thing was going to go out on me and it was a bit heavy. I am 160 pounds

What are common problems with this year 08? What things should I check before buying? Is 6200 a fair price?

Thanks

The D8 should be very comparable in weight to the 7 within a few pounds. The sled geometry as been greatly improved over your 9 so it has a very light feel anyway. You are going to love carving with that sled! Make sure to get the motor update done with your dealer if it hasn't been done yet. It is free and extends your warranty. The Walker Evans shocks usually need to be filled each season too. Other than that the price sounds fair.

I would buy it, if you liked the 900 you will love the 800, less power but lighter and more reliable

Of course extensively check out the under the skin aspects (bulkhead, motor mounts, all main chassis support structure, clutches, all bearings, track conditions, hyfax, shocks, and steering componant bushings) to make sure it's in peak condition and nothing hidden comes up to haunt you. Some of us can ruin a sled in under 900 miles without the outer appearance being bad so do your homework!

The motor should get the updated top end, head, and remap so that is great. The 08 has inferior plastic both durability and in deep snow performance so that might come into play as a consideration as well. Updating costs about $400 and is worth it.

I am looking at an 09, but interested what you mean by inferior plastic?

I know the bumper was updated and I think the nose cone is a bit different as well, but is the plastic really changed?

Yep 100% performance fact the 09 plastic sled moves through the deep snow and pops on plane easier. We did both on an 07 and 08 chassis to find out.

Less drag and the snow is forced to the transmission (track) as opposed to dragging along on plastic pushing snow in front. ANY STATIC DRAG WREAKS HAVOC ON PROPULSION...watch when we get snow and I get to undeniably prove there is a serious deep snow performance handicap with wide running boards on like vehicles! That one will be a really good time for me:face-icon-small-hap and I will be relentless:D!

Now the other huge benefit is that you now don't have the weak plastic bumper afixed to the entire 3 piece belly pan so that when you hoist the sled or run into something you are forced to replace the entire front plastic. All of the 07 and 08 models have the structure tied together with the foundation being that weak plastic bumper. Huge design flaw but now is addressed.

I own an 08/800 and one of the first things I did was to install the Skinz bumper and float plate. The plastic bumper is a joke, broke mine strapping my sled down in the trailer, glad I never hit anything. The seat cover is very slick when it gets any snow on it, there are lots of options to fix that now, but I put the Skinz cover on mine and like it. All the Dragons come with the Walker Evans ski shocks that have a very soft shaft surface, covers are a good idea. The running boards suck, I went with Snow Eliminators but don't recommend them on this machine. If I were to do it again I would go with the Better Boards or WRP wide board kit. Your going to love this sled coming from the 900, it's way easier to ride.

If its in good condition, $6200 is a steal. Its a bonus if it has any extras. Good luck. You'll love it!
