Abandoned ZR Cat at Cottonwood

We've ridden Cottonwood several times this season and there has been a ZR slowly being buried by the snow on the West side of the pass since January. It's now being scavenged for parts. Does anyone know anything about it? I hate to see it sitting there being stripped not to mention how it will look if it's still there late spring when the road opens.

Its been there since the beginning of December. That's pretty crappy that someone would just leave it there. That sure makes us snowmobilers look good. Maybe we should have taken that hood a few months ago, we really needed it for my one buddy that crashes a lot!

Exactly.

That's precisely my point. We may go again this coming weekend (maybe even a day trip during the week) and I'm going to dig it out enough to find a registration sticker. At least we can try and contact the owner through whatever state its registered in.

Any chance they lost the motor, drive shaft or something else that would prevent the owner from getting it out of there. I know there were two sleds in our riding area that were left there. They sat there for 2 months, then they finally were removed. Getting a broken down sled out of a riding area is not the easiest thing.

No, it isn't easy at all. The last time I was involved in a recovery op, we decided to swap the motor in the field instead of attempting to tow it out.

This sled appears to have been towed as the belt is off and hanging from the handlebars. It's mostly buried and the under-hood area is completely packed with snow. It's going to take probably two sleds to tow it out of where it is as it's a steep pull in one spot. We helped someone out of this area a couple years ago and had to use two sleds to get it up the hill.

I saw a group tring to get that ZR up the chute a couple of times this year.. They just dont have the hp they need to get it out or up that hill so they said they will come get it when the road gets plowed.. They did not know or have any other way..

Nice to know we have fellow sledders out there like hockeyday that believe it is their right steal... Stealing parts off broken down sleds is way more of a problem than someone that could not get a sled out.. And just about as low as you can get..:(

I hate thiefs.. Way to showyour true colors bro.. What now are you on your way to rip this dude off..

I bet I went by that sled 30 times this year and I never thought about stealing anything off of it..

When I see a sled stuck out in the backcountry my first thought is where is the rider? Could he have been injured and is in the area.......not once have I thought of stealing parts.....WTF???

Hey snowboarder A**. I never said I stole the parts bro and you're not my bro so don't call me that. I have never ever stole any parts for that matter. How about since you been by that sled sooo many times, maybe you could help pull it out. You probably wouldn't do that because it would eat a belt. I've actually pulled two people up that steep hill there. Bet you're one of those guys that never slows down when someones broke down on the trail. It was a joke, some people are so uptight.

Re-READ my post and take your time, because I said "it is NOT the easiest thing, to get a broken down sled out"

I'm not sure why you are getting so defensive. You hint at the idea of taking parts in your first post.

Let's not play semantics games, ok? I read your post and was agreeing that it CAN be difficult. The word CAN simply got left out. Does this explanation make you happier? :face-icon-small-win

The motor swap that sure brings back some memories!! Gotta find the picture of my GPS showing 12,000 ft altitude in the empty Mtn Max belly pan! I am still riding that engine swap ... she ripped all season!

Hockey stealing parts is not funny to me maybe to you it is a great joke but if I think someone is stealing parts or if I see someone is stealing parts.. Well it is BS and I will call them out..

That is how I took your fist post.. I think this is what you wrote before you were backpeddlin faster than the ncaa hoopsters this weekend..:face-icon-small-win

Your first post seems to say that it is ok to steal to teach this low life a lesson.. Well guess what we asked if they needed help (they said they did not) and they just wondered if anyone would steal the sled or parts after tryin to pull her up for a few hours in a complete white out.. I told them I doubt it if it is on this side of the chute but if someone can pull it down to the trailhead who knows..

As far as the F+++ comment well you are now showin your true colors.. Dare I say it BRO..

Poor ZR

I have a picture from last week of that poor ZR but it's on my wife's camera, which is in Las Vegas with her right now...

I can't believe that people pull parts from abandoned sleds, it's bad enough to break down and have to leave your stuff out there, that's a sickening enough feeling, but knowing that some scumbag is going to pick apart your sled while it's out there is even better...

When she's back I'll throw up a post with the pic.

I have a 99 Powder Special that has a cracked hood, but I'm not going to take the ZR hood for me just because it's convenient...

It's just a joke!

Come on people!!! When I read Hockaday's post I could tell it was a joke, simply a joke. Let's not get all bent over it. My first reaction to someone leaving a sled would be the same, make arrangements to get it out. But obviously they've tried and will get it out later, so my first reaction would have been wrong. My bad. Keep your anger toward the s**tbags who stole the stuff! Now a group hug...
