OK, need a couple suggestions if you got em'

Species: '08 M1000/ Twisted RG

Symptoms: Soon as it fires up it blows the fuse and I lose instruments & Tail light. Also (don't know is it's associated or not) AEM gauge goes nuts cycling through 111,222,333,444,555,666,777,888,999, and then some random letters before starting all over again.

History: Working fine when it went into the garage for the Twisted set-up. Took off the spedwerx set-up, timbersled intake and boondocker box (along with all associated wiring). Turbo is up and running well but this electrical issue is really slowing me down.

Tested so far:
Gauge and headlight harness - Clear/ when the fuse blows I lose gauge but not headlights (unplugged the entire harness and it still blows)

AEM Gauge - Clear / unplugged, still blows

Tail light harness - Clear

Cold start (interrupt switch) - Haven't completely cleared this one yet, disconnected it and the fuse didn't blow. So thought I had it, started unwrapping wires and getting ready to re-wire it or find the fault. Just for ****s and grins fired it up again and this time it blew the fuse...go figure.

Attitude box - Haven't tested because I can't start it with no power to the box but it seems to be operating properly.

All wires in the twisted harness appear kosher. At his point I have been staring at the same damn wiring for 5 hours and am out of ideas to check. I welcome your suggestions or ideas.

Thanks

Your prob grounding out or have connected positive to negative>

Good luck, I just went thru my whole wiring system and sodered every connection

Todd,

What were you doing up so late? Wiring starts to look a bit fuzzy after Midnight, doesn't it. I sent you a PM. What we talked about, the modified rear half of your tunnel and taillight assembly, especially where the wire loom lays against the heat-exhanger, and the wires under the tank are two good areas to thoroughly check.

The sound of that Garrett winding down should be of some comfort. :face-icon-small-hap

As stated above, I'd look at the tail light circuit and apv circuit.

There are two positive leads: The red/blu is the fused lead and the red/black is the unfused.

The tail lights, ecu(apv motor), speedo/tach, and a few other things are on the red/blu circuit

The head lights, warmers, rev horn and etc(hp pump?) are on the red/black.

So if you have a wire rub to ground in the tail light or the apv motor leads this should blow the fuse, but not kill the motor.

The AEM gauge reseting doesn't compute.... unless the load(short) that blows the fuse drags the main voltage down momentarily and stops the AEM then after the fuse blows and the unfused circuit stabilizes.... the reset gauge is happy again???????????

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input

Thanks for all the quick input guys, I haven't gotten back to it yet but am on my way home now. Am going to start with the tree harness and then work through each plug down around the base of the steering column (tail harness, servo mo0tor etc.) .

Thanks for the help and I'll keep you posted:face-icon-small-dis

On a side note....

Just to stay on the bright side...the Garrett DOES sound good and the turbo is running thanks to CosarGuy....Thanks man.

That is exactly where(well closer to the water bottle) most of the red/blu wire seem to surface out of the main loom running back from the CCU and ECU. Maybe one of them is too close to a sharp edge.

Now if it's the servo motor the redblu goes into the ecu and then comes out as a blk/red and red/brn(i think). I would just find the connection at the servo motor and follow the loom back to the main loom under the water bottle. Hopefully you'll find the problem! Good luck!

One other thing? Do you have a egt gauge, avenger,???? or just the o2

You have resistor spark plugs in I had a similar problem and some how I got ahold of some b9eya or es and everything went crazzy on the sled it only took a week and a half to find! I changed wiring harrness ecu ccu stator bd box and it was just the spark plugs.

Found it

And the clouds parted, the sky opened up and the sun shone in!!!!!

Luckily it was none of the above, but we got it. Cosarguy and I slept on it and then bounced some stuff around this evening. Once clear headed it wasn't TOO hard to find, just not a logical problem.

Anyway....thanks for all your input and quick responses.

Did I mention that new TT Purrrrrrs :bump2:

Rock and a hard place

At the risk of throwing somebody under the bus whom I have no way of identifying...let's just say that it WASN'T a part of the sled before the upgrade. One of the new harness plugs was put together backwards so that when you plugged it in it went hot lead to ground black. It took a lot of deliberation but we finally decided that there was no way this plug was correct...cut it, switched it and BOOM. Everything runs great. Thanks Cosarguy:first:

Proves that stuff happens to anyone. Thanks for giving us the final scoop! We all learn from these posts!

WAHOOOO

She's done and looks great (runs pretty good too :face-icon-small-win). Upgraded suspension going in tonight and I'll get some pictures of the final build up on here soon. Thanks to Shain & all the guys at twisted and big thanks to Cosarguy for the expertise on all the "little" things.:face-icon-small-hap

Todd

Thanks everyone for helping todd I didnt even get a phone call and his problem sounds like it was my fault. sorry todd, maybe I sould pay a pro to build my wireing harness.

Todd

You're welcome Todd. It was a team effort build. I so appreciate your enthusiastic attitude in wanting to know how everything on the bad boy works and getting in there and making it happen. Good job!

Starting with a great kit that is field proven, makes the project much nicer too.

You'de better hit the weights, especially the forearm curls, you are going to need it at 9+ pounds of boost. :face-icon-small-hap
