DUI Checkpoint in Larimer County
Department: Sheriff
Release Date: Aug 14, 2008
Contact Information:
Kathy Messick, Larimer County Sheriff's Office
Phone: (970) 498-5189 Pager: (970) 419-5404
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Impaired driving is one of America's most frequently committed, deadliest, and preventable crimes. With that in mind, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a roving DUI checkpoint on Friday August 15, 2008 from 7:00 P.M. to 2:00 A.M.
The checkpoint will be at various locations in Larimer County and is intended to remove impaired and intoxicated drivers from Larimer County roadways.
These checkpoints are paid for with grant funds received from Law Enforcement Assistance Fund (LEAF) to provide the extra man hours of patrol. The grants are funded with fees paid by convicted drunken drivers and therefore no taxpayer funds are used.
“As always, drivers are encouraged to use good sound judgment and avoid consuming alcohol before driving,” said Deputy Ted Wilson of the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office DUI Enforcement. “If not, they will be apprehended with zero tolerance enforcement.”
Add another county to the douche canoe:
Members of the Weld County DUI Task Force will conduct sobriety checkpoints at locations throughout Weld during the upcoming National Crackdown Labor Day Enforcement Period that starts today and runs through Sept. 2.
The Weld County DUI Task Force consists of law enforcement officers from many different agencies, according to a press release.
The Larimer County Sheriff's Office also is conducting a roving DUI checkpoint today from 7 p.m.-2 a.m.
The checkpoints are paid for with grants from the Law Enforcement Assistance Fund, which raises money through fees paid by drunken drivers.
