The Boss shot this last night, any ideas what caused the growth?

my guess would be broken points early in velvet, and it was early enough that they grew back with extra calcuim deposits around the tips... But that deer does look old!!! Jus my 2cents...

Damaged in velvet possible, but both sides.

Age closer to 5 years.

Damage to the horn when in the velvet. A fence, low hanging branch? nice buck, that would be worth putten on the wall. what is it 20", 21" wide?

I took a buck with the same growths like that & @ the deer check station I was told it was from Bee stings when in velvet. Who knows but I have racks like that show up every year on smaller bucks.

What a dummy of a deer!

How abut that buck thinking it could wrap some electrical tape around that tine to mend a broken rack!

No wonder it got shot!

:D

That is not a Non-Typical, it is a basic 5X5 frame. The "acorns" can be common on tines. I have 2 bucks with acorn tines.
Nice deer though!:face-icon-small-hap

clearly it is retarded like all things in the Aitkin area;) That place is a drain upon a perfectly good county.

nice looking buck, but what's the story on the tape?

Nice buck!! :face-icon-small-coo I'm going to guess the tape has the tag under it?

that makes sense....in Aitkin they can't figure out the sticky tape on the tag or the string that may come with it;)

In all seriousness where around Aitkin was this taken, just some general direction and mileage.

I carry a roll of elec tape for tagging my animals too...but let them see the tag info (hunting district and what type of animal the tag is for) so I don't have to take it off for a warden. They always want you to take it off anyway though.

County line west of town.

Here we have to tag at site of kill, then take it to town to register for a possession tag. Know all the wardens here, if they want to look at it they can take it off:D

The first time I have seen it.

He's proud of it, it's the biggest he's ever shot.

You mean at least 2 of the wardens in the area could bend a gun barrel by hand;) At least you tag them, we normally drag them in and tag at the store, where nobody even checks the deer.
