A little frustrated with the aftermarket… And Polaris

Snowest is my primary source for solutions to the frustrations that are caused by the sled manufactures inability to create the perfect sled (customized for me) ...

Can some of the manufactures, friends of manufactures of components such as heads, pipes, and etc please let us know about the whole package of add-ons. It is very frustrating not knowing how a sled with an add-on is configured. I see a few guys getting on here talking about how great a product is and I try to go to a web site or search for more information to find nothing or very little.

Example: This ____ head is awesome, or you need porting, the ____pipe with shim is great…

I already have ___ pipe, if i buy your head will i need that computer? If i have your head and want more gains will porting from____ help? That kind of stuff... and what to do when components wear out, or how to tell what is causing a problem:scared::help:

I want to hear the whole story, and yes I am shopping while I am reading, and I’m not going to buy unless there is some solid and clear evidence of the outcome I am looking for and reviews to back it up.

It would be great if your web site explained some of the theory as to why your product works and what it is compatible with and the expected results from combined components.

Bottom line… you folks that are trying to sell stuff need to “sell” it and explain what it will do with what configurations. Other wise us guys without a lot of patience for tuning, or wasting money will not buy stuff.

SLP is on the right track with their Stage-tuning, but not up to date for the pro.

Don’t take this personally; I just want to have a kick *** sled and don’t know how to do it myself!!!

You need to join dyno tech research for $25.00 a year. He has done some good pipe comparisons and more. Thanks, Cam-shaft.

Go visit a local sled performance shop such as fastrax in Puyallup www.ftxmotorsports.com (Curt is real easy to work with)
or something closer to you. Try to find one that specializes in your sled or the mods that you are interested in. A good shop is worth their weight in gold with lots of experience, plus your are supporting local businesses. They have done alot of the dirty work for you with their knowledge and experience.

Buy a Pro-ride.
Pull rope.
Push throttle.
Enjoy.
:)

That is how you get a kick a$s sled.

Funny you say that.... I was talking with my freinds and telling them how I can't decided of what mod to do first on the PRO.

There comment was "why would you want to do any mods when your sled allready kicks our azz"

BTW I still want more!

actually your questions can be a little hard to answer b/c this is the first year for the pro and the aftermarket is still developing their items. and those that are out have had very little time on the snow. finding the "perfect" combination is very difficult b/c it is very subjective. but if you want the best bang for your buck and reliability they you will have to wait until people have my seat time and things are more sorted out. i'd check back about this time next year... me, i have my own plans but i'm willing to test and tune to see what works best, for me. good luck

Thanks for the input so far; BugIto your post on the recent head post is exactly the kinda extra descriptive questioning and listing that I think a lot of folks on here that may not have had much experience with aftermarket performance parts and tuning can gain valuable information from.

I trust the input, on the capabilities of the new pro, from a wide range of people on here that I’m sure can ride circles around me, but more importantly and specifically my most important point is the fact that they can out tune their sleds to get peak performance. While I have not had the opportunity to try out a new pro; I have descriptions from people I ride with and trust that the sleds they have demoed, rented or rode with have seemed a little under powered.

Pura Vida, Now that you mention it, it was after I Snow-Checked my 09 Dragon and it came into the shop, that fall, a lot of information about aftermarket products and their results was more available. I guess that I might be jumping the gun a little, but you can’t blame me for wanting the best information going into a possible snow-check.

The kind of things I’m thinking about are... if I get a sled with an SLP pipe and decide I want a little more power, throttle response, ect… and read on here that guys are having good results with a certain head, “Will it work with the pipe I bought? Do I need to go back to a stock pipe? Is the performance going to be hurt or destroyed by running the combo? That kind-of stuff.

To a lot of you understand modifications and tuning and just know what components of the engine, intake, exhaust, and timing do, but a lot of don’t and need a little more explanation. I brought this up on the mountain today and it was a wide concern of quite a few people interested in the new pros and performance add-ons.

I’m sure that the DynoTec membership is a very valuable tool, but there are a lot of other manufactures represented here that may would help their selves with a little more contribution to the discussion. There are a few examples on here, we know who they are.

Thanks to the guys that Make the parts and those who Share their experience with those who desperately need it.

:face-icon-small-winAnd to clarify, I’m the guy that calls the shop when my sled is flooded on the trailer and asks, “I know it is flooded, but what do I do?” Now I know though. I’m also from a logging community and had to go over to the neighbor and have him start my chainsaw!!! But I do represent a large portion of the sled community. It is because my dads best friend was the saw and sled shop mechanic, so I learned how to pour a good wiskey drink instead

i hear ya, and feel your pain. but unfortunately you must be patient young grasshopper (i have no idea how old or young you really are, not an insult :) ), we should have a real good idea by the first half of next winter what works and what doesn't. i think we are pretty close now. and for your example, a heads benefit would not be dependent on if you had an aftermarket pipe or not. it would help with either setup.

Observation: If you want to change tracks, there is an after market solution; if you want some suspension help, there is an after market solution; if you want clutch enhancements, there is an aftermarket solution; if you want a flow ported engine, there is an after market solution, and so on. What there is no after market solution to is trying to figure out what some one wants. The snowmobiler is responsible to understand the dynamics of a needed change and take the lead in seeking out the appropriate aftermarket solution. And if you are wanting what you do not understand, be ready to spend lots of cash and have lots of misery. Cheers.

Carl's Performance in Boise ID also knows a thing or two about tuning a Polaris. 208-853-5550. You can also google them and find their website. I think it's carlsperformance.com

I would recomend you get your snowcheck pro and ride it like you stole it!!! I came from an 09 D8 too and the pro makes the D8 look like a 600. Don't worry about mods! My buddy did the pipe, clutching, reeds, SLP route, and now overrevs at 5000' and only pulls 7800 rpm at 7500'. My stocker runs 81-8300 everyday, he is frustrated. My pro beats the M8, having less hp!!! Plus, mods void the warranty. My advice, ride it first, it'll make you smile, as is.
