A good old fashion American made Christmas!

You had me at "Christmas". Most folks now get the shakes just using the word. "Winter Solstice" just isn't cutting it for me in any way, shape, or form.

I agree with your idea. I have worked in that direction for quite a while. The truth is though it takes a bit or work to verify "Made in the USA" items even in our most traditional home grown shopping venues. I always thought that a campaign like "As Seen on TV" would go over really well if it were "Made in America". Imagine a shop in the mall, a catalog, or web site that featured only domestic made goods for purchase. Add to that a portion of proceeds to our troops serving in battle and my credit card would be smokin.

Maybe somebody will give it a spin someday. Till then maybe we should post up some of the better gift ideas we have found that are made here at home.

Here's a good start MADE IN USA GIFTS

MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone (oh ya, Happy Halloween and Thanksgiving too). Great idea and post Mafesto. EW

the hell with gifts...buy just one big one for the family that everyone partakes..(bigscreen tv...hot tub..etc)..have a big whoopin supper or suppers with the family...and donate the savings to the needy or keep it for race gas..the corporations have us brainwashed for the heathen holidays..

X2

My extended family (about 20 people) have been talking about this for a couple of years, beginning to look like this year will be the trial year with no gifts just get together's, some sledding, stuff like that.

yep...or one alternative is to draws names and just buy one gift...i know when my kids were young earning 5 to 7 bucks an hour at part time jobs and working hard and then feel the pressure to buy gifts for everyone..and see all there savings go i said the heck with that...but good luck with your get together...i think you all will really enjoy it ..

We've cut back more and more the past few years. The best part for me is just getting together with the families. We have a tradition with my sons (grown now) where on Christmas Eve we get together, have snacks, beverages, and play board games. We ALL probably look forward to that time more than anything else. :) To have QUALITY time together is priceless.

I have been trying to talk my family on going on a vacation somewhere. No shopping, no crowds, just enjoying each other.

With that, technically America is a pretty large area, Mexico would be considered to be America.

Mexico is no ally to US at all.
They are a neighbor that refuses to control their nuisance animals allowing them to terrorize the neighborhood.

Spending money in Mexico or on Mexican imports is no better than China.
As far as I'm concerned Mexico should be isolated from the US by a border that is enforced by whatever means necessary, up to & including lethal force.

Who is intersted in joining me in a 90% American Made Christmas?

Let's vow to buy at least 90% of our Christmas gifts from products made in the USA or Canada.

Please?

Thanks!

I can barley make out your post coming from your foreign made computer.

Could we at least keep a small hole open so all the drugs that drives the Mexican Cartels can still get thru?

I never said they were, I simply said that "American" is a loose term. America includes Mexico.

America is a region of the world. :face-icon-small-win

If you are saying to support American Allies, then you can add a huge list of countries to that list. I get the point you are trying to make and do everything I can to buy American. It is hard at times.

I guess I was going off of the title of this thread:

"A good old Fashion American made Christmas!"

American can made can be made in Mexico, since Mexico is part of America...

American is a common "name/term" that is mis-used.

Here's something more radical. Donate or give 90 percent of your Christmas budget to they guy on the street corner in America...but don't just do it at Christmas, do it year round.

Hey EW I tell ya what...I am made in America and live in America, work here too. For every 10 dollars you donate to me I will give 5 to the troops overseas! And of course I won't make any old saggy skinned person jokes ever.

This has been out there over a week with very little positive responses.

I hope you all enjoy your Chinese Christmas!:face-icon-small-fro

Sirent night
Hoerie night.

OK rail job, lets say I give $1.50/lb for your mal-nurished 'ol self. Whats that...like $75 bucks and change. It would cost me more than that in postage to send you my post op loose skin in a Christmas Stocking. Picture that Ginger.......lol.

Sirent night
Hoerie night"

Hah, reminds me of a classic. Goes like this:

Deck the halls with bawz of harrie
Faaah Raaah Raaah Raaah Raaah
Raaah Raaah Raaah Raaah

Tiz the season to be Jarrie..............

Hint: "You'll shoot your eye out kid"

We also do similar to what Cat Woman says. When the boys are home I dig out all the home movies from years gone by and watch n laugh. Its a hoot to have all their buds over too to watch their old sports tapes. Nothin like watching a stud 6th grader make a 70 yard run in full pads just to trip over his own feet and go down on the 3 yard line. Good times.

We also do the majority of our shopping for those less fortunate. Its great to take on an entire family going through hard times and know that your family was able to help them in some way. I am a co-founder of Operation Santa here where I live and I can't begin to tell you how many of Santas helpers today were once on the receiving end. This is the most pure expression of appreciation.

Once I was in Coeur D' Alene Idaho during the Holidays and I saw a Tree of Sharing in one of the businesses. I pulled a couple kids names off the tree and looked at the requests. i couldn't believe it when I saw things like shampoo, tooth paste, deoderant, etc. I asked the store guy what kind of kid wanted that stuff for Christmas. He said they were Childrens Village Kids. (Click the link to read more)

The short of it is that at Childrens Village kids are taught early how to budget by getting a monthly operating allowance. If a kid blows it all on movies he has no tooth paste. Like X said, we Americans are real generous one month a year and the kids have this dialed. They ask for personal products and we get them the three to a wrap huge Costco
size. They score enough of that kind of stuff just at Christmas that they have a few free coins the rest of the year to buy the stuff they really need/want. Way safer than the yellow print sweater that I might have thought was hip.

We can all find a place like Operation Santa or Childrens Village to share our kindness with at Christmas. Places like Childrens Village that actually house kids are greatly appreciative for folks who are willing to get out in their communities and round up donations like haircuts, dentistry, tires, oil changes, movie passes, swimming passes, etc. We have gone out and done this as a family during the Holiday Season and had a ball.

Lots of good opportunities out there to share in and be a part of a Good 'ol American Christmas. EW
