A few questions

Hello all,
New to the forums and have a question or two. I've just moved from Alaska to Washington and since I'm so close thought I'd take a trip in Jan to yellowstone and surrounding areas to do some sleddin. Up in Alaska I mostly used my Firecat to hit the trails and go boondockin between trees and powder fields. This is my fav type of riding. Where close to the Victor Area can I find riding like this? Is there riding like that in the area or am I better off bringing my M8?

Thanks!

west yellowstone is in montana but borders right on idaho. Personnally i would bring the m8 and go to mccall, #1 because it would be 8 hours close than west yellowstone. #2 You say you want to boondock and such, bring the m8 and give me a pm when your headed this way and we would be glad to show you the area.

Go to Yellowstone for the sights, not the riding. Don't get me wrong there is good riding there, but McCall is better and there are way less people. If you are goingto go, your F5 would probably be fine because there are enough people tracking up the snow, but if you have an M8, why not ride that?

cat kid, you talking about mccall being tracked? if so your crazy! and if you have ridden here and there was tracks your going where everyone is going. If you want to know the untracked steep, tech stuff that hardly anyone goes, let me know im glad to take anyone.

Yellowstone

If you ride the park be sure and bring your kidney belt. It is nice to see the sights but the ride out at the end of the day is pretty rough due to the amount of sleds going in. There is some riding down the road in Island Park that will take you right up to the border of the park- however, you can't cross into the park. McCall is very nice and if you have someone on SW that is willing to show you the area you should jump all over it. How about Council Mountain via West Mountain from Cascade?

Whore!

Thanks for all the suggestions!
Why would I want to ride the F5? Well I LOVE jammin down a trail. Where I came from we had 300 miles of groomed trails and areas where I could pin it for a mile or more on the trail. Love the whoops and jumps a trail can offer. The powder fields would set up so nice my F5 would never get stuck in them..ok.hardley ever and I could carve carve carve.
The M8 is new to me this year and never been a mountain climber but when the boss says "take a demo M8 to ride this winter" you don't argue. I will be staying in Victor so I will be trying to find areas to ride around there and thought since I would be kinda close the kid and I could hit up Yellowstone.

if you like flat trails and a few meadows and lots of folks to pack the snow down for you, then yellerstone and island park are great places to go.

if you want to ride hundreds of miles of trails with a few riders and have miles and miles of untouched powder, mccall might be better.

Where at in WA are you? Do any of you McCall guys have an opinion on cascade area? I thought I might be moving to Elko but turns out I might end up in Boise and it is closer.

From Boise, 2 hours drive and you can be riding any type of riding you want. Cascade is a good area, lots of guys rather take the extra 20 minutes and go on north of McCall. Or, turn east at Cascade and go up to landmark.

a fire cat in the Idaho area is like riding a 174 in MI. if you just want to cruz the trail then keep the F5 but this is like being a fluffer in a **** film!!! HELLO MOUNTAINS????

If I had the funds I'd probably go to MI to ride the trails.....but, since I'm looking to move to the area, visit a few friends and do some riding there. I may just load all 3 sleds and bring em all.
I'm trying to kill a few birds with one stone.

I'll help

Hell man, bring all of them. You can ride the Firecat and I'll take the M8 so you don't have to feel uncomforable and the boss will never have to know you didn't ride it. I'll even give you my notes about what I like and don't like so you can talk it up like it was you on top of all the tech climbs and cutting the tight tree tracks... :D you know me, always trying to help.

MOCO- lmao "helloooo mountains!!!" hahahahaha you kill me man!

if you come to the mtns, bring a mtn sled.

a plummer doesn't bring sheet rock tools to work...why would you bring a flat lander sled to the mtns? except to complain and say i wish i had more power and track....

however, if you like trails, perfect...more for everyone else...:beer;

S
Maybe all the maps I saw were just trails to the hills?

YES!!

and we go out of our way to find shortcuts off the trails.
each to there own, and i'm not bustin yr balzz but listen to all the guys from the flatlands that drive 20+ hours just to get hooked on the steep and deep, find a few guys to go tree bashing and hill climbing in ID and even in the summer you think "if that had snow on it i could??"

I don't see the post of the mt guys in the flats saying the same....
good luck
hope you find a deep meadow and some pow to ya.

Hey Firecat
I live in Victor and would be glad to take ya for a dig. Bring your mountain sled or you will be dissapointed (stuck). PM me and let me know when your in town.
Steve.

If your idea of a great time is pinning the throttle to the bar, screaming down the trail and taking the whole thing up in the process, maybe you should just keep going east! We have some pretty decent trails here and it is fun to "turn up the heat" from time to time, but if your plan is to just come in and race the trails, I'd appreciate a heads up before you go.

I have a few moderately experienced riders in the family and they know to stay on their side of the trail and that people are going to go flying past them in both directions. However, it scares the living he__ out of me when people are taking up both sides as they come flying around blind corners and such. I have an old friend in E. Idaho who was a very successful businessman and ended up getting messed up by one such rider. Ended up like a 6 year old for life. Similar moron ended up taking Carl Struthers away from friends and family too (from what I understand).

So bring whichever sled you want to Idaho and have a great time. But please leave your Ricky Racer ideas at home.

In Idaho, Ricky Racers end up missing a corner, and getting pinned against a tree, in the bottom of a creek gully, a hundred feet below the trail. And, there's not many long straight trails here. Maybe what you need is one of our mountain lakes. There fun to blast down, until the compression waves build up, or you find a thermal spot in the lake. :)
