98 summit clutching

I have a 98 670 summit that had a 136 but i put on a 151. Im not sure what is all done to it but the people i talked to that knew the sled in the area said it was a 150 horse motor. Its enough to scare me a little bit on the trail but when i put the 151 on, deep pow or the mountain kills it. stock gearing i believe still. But i think the secondary isnt shifting out to keep my rpms up in the pow and on the mountain. It runs 7900 down the trail from elevations of 6000-9000 feet. 7500-7200 in the powder and climbing, if it falls below 7 it looses its power band, id like to bring it back to 7900 and have it stay there not matter the situation. Im not familiar with skidoo, just the 670 motor. Is there a way to tighten the secondary with adjustments or moving the spring into a different hole like on an older polaris? Thanks guys, im a noob when it comes to Doo.

is the sled a 670 summit x ? if it is should turn 8100 but they do pull really hard at 7900 and you can adjust the spring on the secondary it has 1 thru 6 on the helix and abc on the clutch half i think a is the tightst setting but it might be c you can figure it out by looking at it with a bigger track you are gonna want to gear it down atleast 2 teeth i geared my 670 x down 2 teeth when i put a 144 on it and i didnt have to change the clutching at all if your belt is worn out it will do what you are saying too you should run a 127 belt for a 02 800 summit x you can turn up your clickers on the primary to gain 200 rpm at a time numbers 1 to six agian so if on 3 turn to 4 will give you 200 rpm also the springs in both the secondary and the primary could be sacked on a sled that old also it should have a beige secondary spring i think erlandson enginering makes a spring alittle stiffer for the secondary that might be what you want hope this helps also on thooose sleds the scondary should be set at 18lbs with a fish scale on the sheeve

Gear it 19/44 or 45. Use the -127 belt, 287 ramps, 160/290 spring, 14gms pin weight (adj for altitiude), beige secondary spring (which is actually black now), goodwin teflon buttons with a straight 47 helix (polished ramps). Tachs read a little low, shoot for 8000-8100 on the tach.

yea last year i only went out a few times and i turned the clickers up on the primary, it helped alot but it got me to where im at now and no its not a summit X i dont believe. it has (had actually) the green hood without the X after the summit on the decals, but then again that doesnt mean anything lol. But thanks alot guys, i know polaris clutches inside and out but not Doo. Ill try tightening the secondary with the spring and gear it down also. The clutches were gone thru when i bought the sled 3 years ago and ive only had a few (maybe 15) rides on it since all thru high school i worked weekends and now in college i only have sundays off. My first ride last weekend i ended up goin upside down at the top of the mountain. I didnt know i broke my front shock and limit straps until i hit the cornice and she stood straight up and then some. :face-icon-small-dis mostly cosmetic stuff tho. but thanks again guys!!

The green hood would be from a 96 model year. Is the tunnel painted blacked or just natural aluminum? The X's (98/99) have the non painted tunnel.

I think you have a 96. Looks identical to my 96..minus the decals. Do what sledrock said. I have 19/44 gears with 8 tooth drivers on a 144 track. Pulling 8000 rpm at 7000 ft clicker 5 on main clutch with 160/290 spring. Think my secondary is beigh spring set at C5 at 17lbs with a 46 helix

yea ill give the gearing a shot. I got my hands on an Arctic Cat roller secondary that was machined for a skidoo jackshaft. it was on a 670. steel rollers, 44 helix, comes with a 45 also, running a yellow spring but also comes with red. so ill mess with that and the Doo primary but gears i was thinkin a 19/45. just a hair lower. but from the same guy i got my hands on a Diamond S mesh hood, a lightweight seat, and a 144 fabcraft tunnel with the U cooler.
