"95 XLT won't start cold

Hello,
Looking for some help or suggestions,
My 95 xlt won't start with or with out choke on. This started up last year.
It will fire right up when starting fluid is sprayed into the cylinders.
Runs fine. I can shut it down, then fire it right back up, but if it cools down for 60 to 90 min. then it needs starting fluid again.
This is what has been done since this problem started:
All carbs have been torn down and cleaned,
Replace choke cable and belived I adjusted choke setting correctly,
New spark plugs and caps,
Wiring seems to be ok
Check fuel lines, new fuel filter
When I ground out the spark plugs, I get a strong spark,
But Like I said, only starts with starting fulid, then it runs fine, has power, strong spark, fuel pump squriting out fuel,
All 3 cylinders are showing 130+ PSI, it is a bit hard to pull, but it always been like that since I had it.
Anybody have any ideals?
Thanks, DCJ

You might take another look at the float bowls and the needle valve which allows the fuel to leave the bowl. There were issues with these needle valves that made them stick either open (filling the crank with fuel) or closed allowing no fuel to the engine (some blamed the rubber tip). They work well on the bench then not work in real time. I am thinking the needle is stuck closed not allowing fuel to leave the bowl. You can check them by slightly setting the needle and see if it falls back out on its own without assistance. Hopefully that is it. 550iq

Is this an RMK or not? If RMK, does it have the ACCS system on it?

Did you re-sync the carbs after cleaning them?

Check your pulse line from the motor to the fuel pump, I suggest simply replacing it.

Recheck your choke cables for proper adjustment

How many miles on the sled?

No it is not a RMK
carbs were re-snyc
Fuel pump shoots out gas, but will check the impulse line
I was planning to re check choke cable this weekend, I have them set 1/8 inch longer than the plunger hole, was going to try 1/16 longer?
4200+ miles
FYI, when it do start, it has power, will race accross the yard, no bogging.
This started last Feburary, ran, started fine before this happen.
A friend of my cleaned the cards, but did not soak them overnight, was think also to reclean with a overnight soaking.
Thanks for you replay and help.

hard starting

Better check piston skirts with that many miles. May have lost one. That is a piston port motor and without the skirt it won't pull fuel right.

Yeah, my thought on the skirts too... I've seen XLTs break off skirts, run fine, but not start. Just pull the carbs and look in the boots with a flashlight.

And check your choke cables again. I adjust them on roundslids so that they plunger touches the bottom of the hole right as the threads start. Your choke should be a 2 stage sort of thing, flip it up 1/2 way and then it will flip up even further. Check to make sure all 3 choke cables are actually being pulled, the lever can break inside the housing and not pull all 3 levers.

If the carbs were dirty I don't think it would run right after warm.

Check your fuel and pulse lines, make sure they are tight even at the carbs. You can have them leak off some fuel when it sits and the lines be partially empty causing hard starting after it has sat for a while.

And finally, check the spark plug gap and make sure it is set to spec.

550iq, BB454 and sledguy,
Thanks for the suggestion, I will take a look at everything mention, hope to get to it this weekend, then I will update what I found or didnt fine.

Well, I check the pistion skirts, they are all good. The impuse line was loose on the engine, will replace with new hose and clamp soon.
Played around with the choke setting, and did get it to fire up on full choke with 10 pulls.
Spark plug gap was off some, regap, will see if it help when I get a new fuel line and clamp for the impuse line.
Looks like I'm on the right track. Hope to get to it again next weekend.
Thanks for everyone suggestions, it has steered me in the right direction.

XLt won't start cold

Check and see if the choke valves are stuck, if not remove chokes and run carb cleaner through all passages.

powered snow fills the air bleed passage to choke, melts, then freezes sticking choke shut/blocked, solution open chokes(they are actually enricheners not "Chokes") a minute or two before halting engine-long enough to unfoul plugs before killing engine. Choke circuit is now 'dry' and ready for next cold start.

Early production Xlts had cheap float valves, upgrade to the viton tipped ones for easier starts. other wise turn off gas valve between runs.

No highjacking at all. Go through all the noted suggestions; the list about covers it. 550iq
