900 RMK Motor Swap Questions

I have a 2005 RMK 900 and was wondering how much of a nightmare would it be to swap in a motor out of a 1998 XC 700? The reason I ask is my RMK crank snapped this weekend and took the cases with it. I have a complete 1998 XC 700 motor with a bunch of SLP mods sitting on the bench and ready to go. Please forward me any suggestions or photos if anyone has done this swap. THANKS!

Sounds like and interesting challenge. There is a motor mount plate available to swap the engines in the newer chassis but not sure about the 05. If you have a shop and are good at fabrication I think it would be possible. That engine is smaller right? and carbureted? You would have to change to fuel pump to something with less pressure or possibly install a pressure regulator for that.

Thanks for the suggestion to contact IndyDan and I PM'd him to see what his thoughts are. Regarding the swap, I have the complete 1998 XC 700 sled that the motor is out of so I would have all the wiring, carb cables, fuel pump, and other needed components. I know it will not be an easy bolt in and go however, I think the biggest issues will be to figuring out mounting the motor and exhaust.

I was just going to add the exhaust would be tricky. There are a couple places that would do a whole custom one for you. When I called CPI for info on mine they said they could hand make one for anyone who brought their sled to them.

I have swapped engines in quite a few things, if you have all the wiring and everything it is a matter of pulling the old engine and setting the new one in and taking measurements and checking clearances. You'll need to have a clutch alignment tool for sure.

I have all the clutch alignment and centering tools because I have done a couple of swaps on Wedges, Gen II, and Edges but never a newer chassis. That is why a figured I would throw out the swap question and see if I could get some advice or pointers on key problem areas of making the swap.
