I know, not the best pic of the running board, but it's all I've got right now.

Didn't make it ourselves, but it does lean over easier than one with a full tunnel.

Catdog, If there is roughly 200 .25" dia holes thru .25" thick aluminum, It will only equate to .245 lbs. That is a lot of drilling for so minimal weight reduction, Let alone strength reduction in the skid frame. Also where it was solid before, Now snow can pack in there and you have even less of a reduction. A cubic inch of aluminum weighs .10 LBS. Steel is .283 and Titanium roughly .17 lbs.

I think he was asking about the ported track, not the "ported" suspension rails. (Which are no longer on that sled btw. IMO, the guy who did that wasted a lot of his time. He drilled holes everywhere in that chassis, and everything that we thought was significantly weakened got replaced.)

You can save a few lbs by porting the track, but I've seen more than one break, depending on how the holes are done. The main benefits are supposed to be less rolling resistance, and better snow evacuation from the rear suspension. We've run ported and un-ported tracks, and with the new Cat float suspension, I didn't really notice much difference in either climbing or the amount of snow in the suspension.

Now where have I seen that before..... oh ya in my garage! She turned out great my friend. A word for the some-what wise, put a fishplate where your bumper ends at that corner. Or maybe even a short piece of strap. Mine tore a little bit last year and had to weld it up

Just a recomendation...

anybody else done something like this? how did it side hill after?

No difference in the sidehilling. But the lack of tenching is crazy now! You dont have the back half of the running boards taking weight off the track in soft pow. Just hit the throttle and she jumps out of anythign! It might also be how I have my rear suspension set up too...

I tried to REP ya, but the stupid thing says I can't!

SO HERES SOME REP!

Idacatman, I thought he was referring to the suspension as you can't tell by the pics if the track is ported. I myself have the track ported and seems to work great, Only two holes down the ctr. Any more and I would think the track would loose too much floatation? By the way, Looks like a fun project sled!
