8Bu's and MPI Rivits

Has anyone tryed the 6 gram MPI rivits in the 8bU's? I've tryed Daltons and there ok, but I really like how the 8bu shifts. With the 8bu fully loaded anything over 14psi and I'm on the rev limiter (thats with an addional 1.5grams of washers squeezed in there too). I just ordered 6 MPI rivits so I'm hoping this will give me what I need for 17psi.
Anyone tryed this? Sean

Yes I run that set up. Works good. Have tried a few diff combos and keep going back to this set up.

i love the 8BU's... just couldnt load them enough for over 12# like you said.. just got insane amounts of belt heat...

im gonna be hitting the backs up with a couple little zaps from the mig and get em from 58's up a bit to say maybe 62 to start and see how she goes.

set-up

When you guy's add extra mass by welding a bead on the back side how do you keep the heat from wrecking the roller bushing in the ramp?

I run the following @ 10 psi
14.5mm rollers
8BU-00's fully loaded
Blue, white, Blue primary spring
EPI purple secondary
Straight cut Shockwave 1.5 turns out. Although I'm going to try a straight 45helix this year. The shockwave works good but man does it eat up the secondary buttons, which is friction and lost hp.

Seanny I have a bushing tool to remove the bushings. We used to replace the bushings all the time. I think you know where to find it in the shop. Shad

a quick zap from the mig welder puts so little heat into the weight as long as you only do a tiny bit at a time.. then again, it can add a few grams in just a second.

you just go slow and do a few zaps.. its a decent chunk of steel and can absorb a bit of heat.

anyone have luck running these in a apex @ 16-17psi of boost...tried them with the stock heavy rivets not enough weight...How do these work @ 18psi of boost on a nytro without hitting the rev limiter?

I ran that combo all year last year. Got em up to 64.5 grams each with washers and ran over 20 PSI with great results. Had to go a little steeper on the shockwave to keep it off the limiter over 17 PSI. Going to run this again this year.

Thanks for all the help guys!
I just threw one of mine on the scale and its currently 61 grams with 4.5g Yami rivits and the added washers squeezed in. Do you find 64 grams is enough? I should be real close to that with the MPI rivits if i recycle my washers with no welding.

Tks again!
Sean

One more time

Not to beat a dead horse, but I'm a really slow learner!
I just picked up my new rivits (thanks Shad) and have the following on my scale.
8BU-00 ~ 50.3grams empty
MPI Brass ~ 6.7-6.9grams depending on the rivit
Small metric washers ~ 0.9grams

My original set-up
60.8 grams (this was two long steels and a plus a washer behind each rivit)

My new proposed set-up
65.7ish grams (some filing has to be done yet to get the washers to clear)
This is with two MPI brass rivits plus a washer behind each of them.

Do you think this will be enough, or to much for 15~16psi @ 6000ft? Best guess is all I'm after..

The rest of my clutching is as follows.
BWB primary.
14.5 rollers
EPI purple secondary
straight 45 Deg helix.. (I have a shock wave but would prefer to run the 45, for less riction)

Sorry for all the questions, but at $7.00 per rivit I only want to do this once!!!

Tks again
Seanny

so what are guys doing with the rivet...mine sticks above the profile....hammer it flat i guess

So what is the consensus for the 290 Apex ? A friend of mine runs the 8BU loaded with the MPI rivets for his 270 Nytro. He had to file down a little of the MPI rivet. He is in the 61-62gram range. Is 64 grams close ? Curious ?

Seanny, I am also curoius of this set up I am taking my first trip to revy on the 24th and I need to change my clutching I assume. I have a simalar set up but a 47 degree helix. From what I am getting from this thread I should just load my 8bu's up with the mpi brass rivits and call it good. Thistledoo do you think that the brass rivits will be a close enough set up I think I am running 57grams fully loaded at my elevation usually around 8500ft+++??
Thanks,

8BU's loaded

63.5 Grams with the MPI's - I spent a couple hours the other day playing around with weights.
Thistles 8Bu's work for him - 47 Helix/63.5 G weight
I am going to a similar profile weight and going to try 64.5 with a 45 degree helix.
I know for sure anything less than 61 Grams combined with a 45 degree helix - there is just not enough weight there.

I am going with:
BWB
Green Secondary
45 Helix
64.5G

I have an 06 Apex w/ an MPI supercharger that is probably putting out about 8lbs of boost. I have 66 gram daltons which is probably too much. I run at Cooke City, MT so looking for recipe that will work well at 8-10,000 ft. What 8BU weight should I try? what spring? Any help is appreciated!

weights

cant help with the needed weight set up but if you are looking for heavier 8bu's liephiemer yamaha in butte has some modded ones that are used in the 300 plus kits.. julio
