I am looking at a couple differant trucks ranging from '88 to '90.
F350 four door longbed 460 auto tranys.

Any notorius issues I should be look at?
Besides the fact they are 20 years old.

6-8 mpg is likely what you will see. Other then that they are great trucks and easy to fix if some thing happens. He!! I have a 93 f250 with a new 5.8, k&n filter system, BK throttle body, manuel tranny, factory size tires and I still only get 8. But I get 8mpg no matter what towing, empty, a/c running, windows down no matter what I do LOL

Mine is a little bit newer, but I think most of the important stuff is still pretty similar. My 94 has 198K miles on it and the most major pain in the azz thing I have had to deal with has been the exhaust manifold bolts.... If you have one break (and you will) get it fixed NOW!!! Or else you will fight getting the thing to ever seal again. Other than that the truck has been really solid with only normal maintenance stuff to deal with; Ball joints, U-joints, Brakes, 4WD hubs (go with Warn Heavy Duty manual replacements) and other normal maintenance for a truck. I am not sure what year they went with the E4OD Transmission, but mine has been rock solid even neglecting the maintenance on it... 198K and still running strong.

Oh ya, C/C L/B 4x4 and it averaged 8 MPG doing pretty much anything, driving slow or fast.... 9 MPG was so rare it was cause for celebration, about the worst it would get was 7.5... unless all you did was just idle the tank away.

If 4X4, make sure the original front axle is there. I've seen a lot of guys buying these age trucks to use the solid dana 60 with kingpins in their newer f-250's. They buy the truck for 1500-2000 and swap the 60 for their ttb 50 and re-sell the truck for the same price. It's worth double checking.

Running empty 10 mpg maybe, 6-8 pulling. Our fire dept. has a 1995 f350 with a 300 gallon spray unit in it and it is a good thing it has dual tanks. It burns lots wether driving or idling, but it does have balls!
