850 warranty?

Polaris Protection Plan contract or Promotional Limited warranty (snowcheck)? Polaris Protection Plan - you have 30 days to do the transfer, cost to do it is $40. Unlimited number of transfers for the VIN. This is from Polaris for their extended warranty plan.

How do you transfer a warranty?
I just picked up a 2020 RMK 850 and based on the VIN the warranty is good till 10/2023. I call the dealer that the PO purchased the sled from to transfer the warranty and the dealer said I didnt need to do anything as the warranty was tied to the VIN.

Eh kinda yes but I'd still make them transfer the warranty to you. They have the polaris form to do to the transfer. Probably need to even more if you change dealers

When I pursued my warranty transfer I was initially told the same thing, warranty goes with the VIN. A few days later I received a call from the dealer stating that they had given me bad information and I would have to pay the transfer fee if I wanted warranty. I'm not sure how well versed most the personnel is at these dealers, but you might want to request a second, third , or fourth opinion so you don't get screwed in the process.

I was told by one dealer the original owner had to request the transfer to the new owner

I just did this on an 850 SB Assault. Just went to my dealer with the ownership for the sled in my name, salesman changed the info in the system to mine, paid the $40 and was all done. Sled and factory warranty is now in my name in the polaris system.

I'm guessing you are asking if it was the same dealer that the sled was bought from? If so, no different dealer.
