850 "turbo crusher" vs. axys turbo

So for those of you stressing on the 850 thought I'd write this up being as I own both sleds listed above.

If you are worried the 850 is out blowing turbo sleds away like some have said, think again. After a couple rides between both sleds I can say I like them both for separate reasons. The doo is starting to feel more like an axys but isn't quiet that nimble. For stock power it's awesome but I'd still take an axys. With that being said my 850 is going through a whole mod list right now. We'll see how they compete then. After our last ride my buddy who has an 850 said " so when is a good turbo kit coming out? " he was under the thought his stock 850 would dominate. I do like the 850 a lot in many ways though and for now I'm gunna ride both!

Ya it cracks me up!!! I dealt with the same talk last April, it was not even close to a turbo Axys but why should it be. For some reason people think these 850's come stock with 200hp? Come on! They are a 160 class sled, nothing more.... Stock to Stock they have a little more pull than the Axys but nothing crazy, When the steep gets steep the stock Axys shines..

Just like anything the 850 will do great on boost..

Once Silber releases the tunerless 850 kit it will be on!

But you still have to know how to ride, most stock sleds now days will out ride most. Add boost and it is straight funny watching people try to handle the wild stallion!

Well stated, I rode a turbo pro for two years and discovered I was a much better technical terrain rider on a non turbo pro. I am much more precise and in control on a non turbo. The tiny bit of lag and the turbo spool up both hindered me. My 16 AXYS piped and clutched gets me into areas easily that I severely struggled to get into on my turbo pro. Granted that a 60 year old (me) is probably just a bit slow keeping up with a turbo. All of my riding buddies noticed a HUGE improvement in my steep technical terrain abilities when I got off the turbo. For me its all about the fun and OOC is not as fun as in control. There were many times when I loved that turbo though but overall....wont be going back. Leave it for the younger, quicker, more skilled and bigger balls crew
when I got off my turbo.

My friend stepped up to an 850 154 after riding a 2014 freeride 154 and I have noticed he is a MUCH better rider in a short period of time. The new sleds are awesome, pick the one that fits your riding style and go smash some pow :)

More displacement makes a better rider?
I hope that's not what you are saying.
It's probably the difference in the chassis, not the displacement for his riding skill improvement.

I had a dealer tell me the other day that his stock 850 pulled on a silber axys set at 5lbs. I had to laugh and tell him it was a bunch of bs. The axys definitely set the bar for maneuverability and spoolup. Just cruising around my property the 850 spools quicker and has slightly better top end but I doubt it will be able to maneuver as quickly as the axys. More rotating weight and the 16" track are hurting it in that area. Either way it will be an awesome year with how good these sleds are.

Just looking at my dad's new 850 in the shop and having one ride on one last spring leads me to believe it will be a great sled, but a boosted vs N/A sled should not be much of a competition at elevation. I will say skidoo almost hit it out of the park IMO. If they just would have slimmed the panels 2" more on each side at the bottoms and narrowed up those fatty boards 2" they would really have something to make Axys owners think twice.

I ride a 2016 Axys and absolutely love it :) but also agree with what you say about the new 850, they would have hit it out of the park if they would have put a 15 inch track back on it and narrower the body and tunnel up some more, not to mention updating the rear skid! They probably would have broke the 399 lbs mark but at least they are going probably going to leave that door open for polaris :) The 850 may make more power as it should but its a lot cheaper and easier to build power with the axys, not to mention that they are easier to clutch.

I too am waiting for the Silber kit to hit...(won't be long) talked to Justin 3 times today. Then the 850 will be wild. No way will any 850 beat turboed axys we tested this last week not even comparable. If you where sold on 850 for that reason some one did lotta bull spitting to you.

My 850 is great 3 steps above xm but it's still a stock sled. I do love a lot about its handling and feel. I lowered the bars and that was just awesome alone!

I love the design advancements in these sleds and have come to respect their capability. That said, I had a strong running 16 Axys last year and this year I just put on the silber kit set at 5lbs and I finally got to ride it a bit. All I can say is wowza. That is an impressive setup. Power comes on so smooth and strong. While the 850 is impressive, it can't hang with any newer boosted sled including a boosted 800 etec that I have thrown a leg over. If silber puts out a kit for it that is as good as the axys kit, as has been stated it will definitely be a serious weapon.

I would like to thank you for the most straight forward and honest review that I think I have ever seen on this forum. Unbiased, kudos to you sir thank you.:face-icon-small-coo

850 beating a turbo axys is comical. I was out in nipple deep snow yesterday on my Silber axys at 5lbs. Granted my buddy was on a 16 Doo 800, but when he got buried 50yds up a climb, I wheelied past him and flew over the top laughing. 850 doesn't have THAT much more power than their older motor.

Theres still a lot of good in the n/a sleds, back when we ran the mod motors (other than constant tuning ect ect ect) theres nothing like hittin that flipper on a true 200+ hp high compression motor, My old custom edge with SLP 903 race motor was just plain fun in the power department. Kind of still wish I had put that motor in a pro or axys chassis..........that being said The "pull and go" of todays stuff is such a great change, not to even mention the lightyears ahead the chassis and ease of riding is.
I still would love to see 2 things, factory turbo motors, and a nice 1200 triple around 235 hp from the factory ah wishful thinking :face-icon-small-dis:face-icon-small-dis:face-icon-small-ton

FYI just a side note we ran a turbo dragon at 12psi well set up vs my 200hp edge on a good climb in nice powder at cooke city, pretty cool deal with equal weight riders it was a dead heat to top on multible tries, fun times for sure.

Oh and not to mention you could buy 3 new axys for what we had in the edge build lmao

Bill, I remember when you built that purple beast.
What ever happened to that one?

I too still have a spot in my heart for the edge chassis sleds. 04 pro-xr with 910 and 1.75"x121" track. Not 200hp but it is the most fun i have had on a track in the flatlands thats for sure!

Very true! I have a bad back and that is why i upgraded to an '11 pro from an 03 rmk.

It got sold to a really nice guy from ND, he took it and a bunch of spare parts I had, Sold off the other 2 903 motors I had as well and all those mod XCR440 ignitions too.......rare stuff and they sure were one GREAT motor, FYI the 903 was stock bore with all the displacement made up in a custom billet stroker crank, used a spacer and a longer rod as well
