85 f-250 stack question..

ok im going to put stacks on my ford and im not sure how to route the exhaust..

its between the railsand i want the stacks on the edge of the bed ( im running dual 2.5's with glasspacks my thoughts were to route the pipes up through the bed and run them over to the edge of the bed and put a mandril(sp?) bent 90* and put the glasspacks on them, then cut the glasspacks off about 1/4 the way up and put the 4.5 or 5 inch ( how ever big around the glasspack is ) stack over it and welt it all the way around.

would that work? or is there an easier way?

an easy way is to route your exhaust in the middle of the bed come up and use a square tubing to run side ways to the edge of the bed and cut your holes for your stacks. it sounds nice and make sure that you bring the inlet in the middle that way you get equal exhaust out of both stacks. i've done it to several pickups and it works great. and i usually use one 90 under the bed.

plus install is quick.

id say just go 90 up into the bed, turn to the corners of the bed then go up, cut the glasspack off and slip on some huge pipe, could be done nicer, but its an 85 ford, how goods it supposed to look?

Why cut the glasspack off? Then the packing will blow out. Just find some tubing that will slip over it and weld it at the base so it looks right.

i realized i missed the part about duals.

I would come up through the bed where you want your stacks leave the glass packs underneath the bed. it will look kinda chincey if you cut the glass pack off and slide the stack over it. Plus if you ever want to change stacks you have to ruin your old ones. BEcause you can always sell stacks.

I would be wanting a real clean fit and finish. this will be a little more welding but you can get it to look real nice when your done. go with the square tubing again but only about 6 to 8 inches long. depending on how big you are going with stacks. install those over your pipes coming out of the bed and weld them on. the cut you hole in the top and make a flange for the stack to sit on, that way you can clamp it and have removable stacks. it you get all teh welding looking good under the bed and weld those boxes air tight with good beads it'll look nice and you should get a good grade in it.

theres more than one way to skin a cat but thats one way to get a real clean finish for stacks.

also another concern I would worry about with putting the stacks over the glass pack is how stable it will be. you want those things to stay put. you could brace them off under the bed but again you'll lose the clean finish from underneath.

i was thinking about putting braces at bed rail height and putting a rubber grommet on there for vibration/movement by the motor and bracing. and there not going to be any thing special just some tubing from payne's machinery in libby to cut me some 5 inch stacks about 5.5 feet long each im not sure if they can bend the tops over i may just have them slant cut ( steel tubing 1/8th wall heat treat black paint and then ill turn the pump up a fuzz

Dont forget the git 'r 'done sticker and the balls hanging from the bumper ! I was going to start a thread about this just thye other day I think stacks are the dumbest thing ever!!! If for no other reason consider the resale! Oh Wait its a ford Nevermnid !;)

Don't take me wrong, I am not trying to slam your idea.

But I think stacks belong on trucks, not pick-ups.
They look really redneck....in a "I wanna get into my sisters pants" sort of way.

But if you do it, you may also wanna consider the Dukes of hazard "Dixie" air horns, and either curtains or a rebel flag in the rear window, and white spoke rims, and enough clearance lights to melt down your alternator.

unless you sledpull...vertical exiting exhaust is required for highly modified trucks.but ya I agree with you about looking redneck. I guess Iam a little redneck.lol
