hey guys i bought a blown up 09 dragon 800 this year, i tore the motor down, got the bottom end checked out my a good mechanic in my area he said the rod bearing clearance was iffy so i opted to throw anoth 1000 bucks at it and got a brand new crank, so when that showed up i started assembling, i got the bottom end together with a healthy dose of oil on EVERYTHING that could ever moved, i installed my new wiesco pistons and fix kit with a brand new redone monoblock and i bolted her together, checked the thermostat, filled it full of fluids bled the oil pump, bled the cooling system, and premixed my first tank of fuel, took it to the dealer got it reflashed to the 08 map, brand new fuel, new oil, fired it up let it idle up to temp, shut it down let it cool, fired it up the next day after work, let it warm up, took it for a gentle burn in the field, loaded it up and took it to the hills, got there warmed it up and drove nicely up the trail 40KM into the riding area, always moving it through the rpm band, and not holding it the the bar for more than a second at a time, rode it nicely that day worked flawlessly, rode out, it burned a liter of oil that day and a whole tank of fuel worked really good, filled it up the next day topped it up with oil, then rode the guts out of it that day, worked excellent again, came back down the end of that day, fillled it up the next day but this time with half ethanol fuel and added some oil to the tank and went up the mountain again, warmed it up started headin up the trail, rode it nice, it was at 63 degrees c and about 6300rpm and it started bogging and quit, went to pull it over and i couldnt even pull the rope, pulled the plugs they look excellent, WHAT DID I DO WRONG!!!!????

Not sure on this but if you ran any eth. fuel at all i believe you should have unplugged the wires to richen it up slightly. Eth. fuel makes sled run leaner and if you were close on the fuel map with un-eth. and then added eth. fuel(which would lean it up a little) you created a lean issue and possible melt down.

Dont quote me on this but this is how i understand the un-eth. wiers?:face-icon-small-sad

Ethanol Fuel?????

First off that stuff SUCKS.
Avoid it like the Plague. If it isn't possible and you absolutely positively have to burn that crap, The Pro has a different resistor for Ethanol.
I believe that the IQ has a setting for Ethanol fuel. The fuel settings are different for Regular Premium and Ethanol. The ethanol setting adds fuel to the entire curve. It burns different and can/will sieze your motor if not accounted for.

Sorry bud that sucks.
I would contact the guys at MTN TEK and see if there is anything they can do.
But where you said you put the Ethanol in it you're probably stuck with the repair.

Not only would it have leaned out from the ethanol but adding oil to the fuel will also lean it out. like turbolover said "Ethanol Fuel????? First off that stuff SUCKS. Avoid it like the Plague."

Unless you ran like E-85, I doubt the fuel is 100% to blame alone. If you got some really bad fuel, that is could happen but just running oxygenated fuel probably won't do it. The detonation light would have been firing away and given you at least a warning.

Truly you won't know what happed until you get the top off and look at the pieces. It could be fuel, bad piston, rings, wrist pin. so many possibilities.
Until you see whats going on inside, you can't tell what happened.

If its any different, I got less than 20 miles out of mine and now it won't run at all. I did everything but the Fix kit.

I would love to drive to Team Polaris and shove this motor up someone's ***.

Well started tearin it down got the pipe off and exhaust valves air box and got that flippin fuel syphened out but then had a little coolant whoops so it's off to the carwash for me and to hell with it for the night, but one thing I did find odd was that the oil coming out of the exhaust valve hose looks like old diff fluid? It's pretty nasty stuff ! Oh and I couldn't check out the pistons my flashlights are all dead

If its a tan color, kinda like diff oil with water in it, then you have coolant in your chamber. That is exactly what mine had yest when I tore it down. There is a leak somewhere.

syko.

well i tore it down last night, pistons have a strange wash to them doesnt look right, and i could fit a .019" feeling guage inbetween the piston and the cylinder (not between the ring and wall) and i could slide the pistons side to side a bit with the cylinder still on, (never seen that before) then i took the cylinder off, turns out i cooked a rod bearing, it spings about 80 degrees not 360 so thats why it siezed, i can rotate the motor forward and back about 80 degrees of a rotation, so i guess either my oil pump quit or i maybe plugged off a oil nozzle when i put the two case halves together with liquid gasket, ...................... so anyone heard of a 900 cat or a 670 going in these sleds??

I put 60 miles on a top end in my 08 D8Turbo and it did the same. Come to find out someone put the bearings to the water pump shaft in backwards and that's why it overheated. I ended up with total rebuild, put one tank of fuel thru it, pulled the piston due to lack of compression and the mag piston is shot. ONE TANK OF FUEL is all it took. Same as everyone else, exhaust side of mag piston.

Note to all don't buy polaris pistons, go with wiseco instead. And their cheaper too.

Hopefully it helps.
