800 Summit Cutting Out

My '01 800 Summit has started cutting out off of idle. Starts great, idles great, rode for about an hour then it started cutting out. Idles perfect, then get going and about 1/4 throttle to 3/4 throttle it dies just like I hit the kill switch. No stumble, sputter, cough, just dies like I shut it off. If I let off the throttle it picks up again (clutches are keeping it running while sled is slowing down, decelerating). If I pin it (WOT) it takes off like it should. Seems like somewhere off idle and up to almost WOT it has a short or an open that is killing the ignition. Phoned the local dealer and he says they don't have carb-icing switches like my old Cat. It used to do something similar, would hesitate off idle then take off, I disconnected the carb switches and it ran great. I don't see any sort of safety switches on my Summit, I also disconnected the main plug to the kill switch, bypassing it, and no difference, still idles good, then get going and give it half throttle, dies.

Anyone had a similar problem?

Help!

Kevin

Mine had a stumble that was the plug caps, cleaned them with electric contact cleaner and it helped. Some say you can replace the caps also. There was a big debate on dootalk about resistor vs non-resistor caps.

Also check carbs for cleaning or check to see if your carb heater are on or off, if equipped. My 03 has coolant lines running to the carbs with an on/off valve. I think if you can run it half choke with no stumble, it may be a pilot jet issue.

Put new caps on it before last ride out, didn't make any difference. And mine doesn't have the carb heaters. Definitely doesn't feel like a fuel issue, when it dies, it's just as if I hit the kill switch, no stumble, bog, sputter.

Going to do a "wiggle" test this weekend. Let it idle and start moving/pulling wires to see if there's a bad connection/break somewhere.
