800 RMK

I have an 03 800. When you run it at about 1/3 throttle after its warmed up it will act like its running out of gas and quit. Its wierd then it fires right back up and runs fine for a while then it does it again. I have tried dropping the needles but it still does it. I am baffled. Do these have a fuel filter. Some time I loosen the gas cap thinking it might help but I am not sure that it does.

Any Ideas.

I would start with the Fuel line. Make sure it is not old, if so replace. Then make sure your fuel pump is good. One way of doing this is to take the fuel line off your carbs, and pull it over. it should squirt out with good presure, not drip out. May be your fuel pump?

Check tank vent line to see if it is pinched. Only fuel filter is a strainer on the end of the pick up in the gas tank. How much fuel in the tank? If part full, the pick up line may have come off the bulk head fitting in the tank too. Not very likely anyway check the pick up line.

Good advice I will check it out. Its only at a certain throttle position. If I am climbing or going full throttle it wont do it. Could it also be the pilot jetting ?

Its only when running 1/4-1/3 throttle for a while. Like pulling my kids on a sled or my wife running up the trail.

Also only when it hot. Or running for a while. Never when its cold.

Where is your fuel pump mounted? There was a recall on these motors to move the fuel pump to prevent vapor locking issues.

I will check. Where should it be at. How hard is it to move. It does seem like a vapor lock. If I let it sit or choke it then ir fires back up and runs for a while.

Supposed to be mounted to the bulkhead below the carbs.

Other thing to check is your pulse line coming from the motor to the fuel pump to make sure its in good shape. If its not the stock black rubber hose then replace it. People use other types of hose some times and it colapses.

When the vaccuum line that comes off the bottom of the crankcase and connects into the fuel pump, gets warm from a hot engine, it kinks and you lose suction and gas. The original black tubing worked fine and did not kink, but the official POLARIS replacement red tubing was a complete and total disaster.
