Well heres the story..my good friends 09 dragon after getting the 2010 pistons and programing ran like dog $hit...low end so-so would not run over 7500, ect ect.. engine light, det sensor light...arghhhhh:mad2::mad2:
OK I owned a race engin shop for 25 years and we are pretty durn anal about checking stuff...so...wires,all conections, leakdown test, compression test, temp sensors, injectors, tps, airbox, exhaust valves, burn patterns..trust me over a period of a few weeks we checked every single aspect of the sled, messed with clutching no end and still ran like crap !!! And everything checked out perfect.

So what we finally did was put the entire sled back to stock except for the hps can. AND then We had the dealer reinstall the stock 2009 single ring piston programming then we put in couple gallons race gas mix with 91 and 1 oz/gallon premix to be super safe...bingo !!!! Sled pulled 8200 with 60 weights at 7500 ft..all day long...no lights no misses no blurbels...PERFECT ALL DAY Now im not saying this will work for everyone but for us on this sled is was the answer THE 2010 PROGRAMING IS GARBAGE, the combination of the low compression 2 ring piston and the original 2009 programing works great..power due to the correct agressive program and safe due to the low compression looser piston..

I really hope this will help some of you who have the same problem we did..note dealer will probably flip a fit going back to 2009 program but thats his problem. 2009 program is what is needed to make it run...best of luck. :face-icon-small-coo

oh, egt full load climbing 1150ish btw both sides, plugs perfect light brown

good to know! have heard this a few times about the pre- update programming. I have a pcv in right now with the map for the update, but will see if I can get the map for the original programming. hopefully the dealer can reflash it back.

We did back to back ecu tests (carried 2 ecu's with us)....2010 latest update ran like crap, 2009 original program hauled a$$ I suspect that the 2010 deal was to allow the motor with low compression pistons to pass epa checks with no reguard to power output. 2008 or 2009 is the best program to have at this time. I would also strongly suggest running 1 oz/gallon premix for your fuel. Does not hurt and gives a huge safety advantage

the sled we did all this testing on was mine. what a pita things have been but as soon as i got them to put the 09 reflash in, it was off to the races! sled ran great. i think everyone's sleds consume different ammounts of oil from what i have seen lol. i have seen these sleds use hardly any oil, and i have seen them use tons. 754, i would possibly check your oil pump adjustment because you should be using about 1qt per ride. but i guess more oil is better than less!

if you are having problems with det codes etc. and ****ty fueling, i would try the 09 reflash for sure. i was about to burn my sled to the ground and now i am loving it. although it is still running good, the fuel curve is not perfect....none of polaris's maps have been very good but this one has worked good so far.

ragin, I have checked the plugs time and again for color, etc, worried if I was using too much oil. I had a 03 754 mod that was the same way from the factory and that sled had over 5000 hard mountain miles on the same jugs and crank. Going to hopefully go for a ride and tweek my pcv map and see if I can't get the proper revs out of it. It does pull really hard and climbs well, even with only pulling around 7900. I'll try to tweek this map first because after thinking about it, Jim at dynotech squeezes the most safe horsepower out of each map he does at his elevation, BUT as he told me tweeking has to be done because of differences in elevation, etc.
Good to hear you got yours running good, so discouraging coming onto the forums and its all doom and gloom about our sleds!

well hell if she is runnin good, i wouldnt bother. thats just what i had heard as far as oil consumption.

Sweet when my sled (09 Assault) gets rebuilt I'm gonna have to have them use the 09 flash. Mine would pull 8000 on special occasion but never on a hill since the piston update. When I first got it 8600 no problem the thing was a killer, not anymore.

Yup i'm thinking the best possible power is for sure the single ring piston, high compression head 09 map and run 25% race gas with a tad of oil premix. Although we may try the 2 ringer with high compression head next...The original 2008-9 800 kicked a$$ then they cut its nuts off....:rant:

the 08 map made more power then the 09 one did...i complained to the dealer when they did the update on mine because it just didnt come close to pulling as hard....be interesting to get a good baseline with the 09 map/ high compression head/2 ring piston, then change to the 08 map....

yeah i may check with the local dealer and see if they have any pre-updated head layin around for me to try out.

"THE FIX" 2008-2010 Dragon's RMK's

How “THE FIX” came about! Another 1st from MTNTK Performance & DYNO
MTNTK Performance has done it again. They are in the business to find solutions to the problems many have been having in this industry. Whether it has been different turbo manufacturer major issues or even minor complaints, MTNTK Performance is committed to building the best products that work, period. Last year MTNTK came out with the Big Boost Turbo for the Dragon, for 2011 MTNTK has a sweet “Pull the Rope and Ride” turbo system for your 2011 Pro or RMK. They have also spent considerable time on a new product called “THE FIX” for the burn down plagued 08-10 Dragon and RMK's “THE FIX” comes with a set of new taller pistons along with a cylinder shim, longer cylinder bolts and alignment dowels. This is designed to eliminate the piston rocking in the cylinder bore which is the real reason for the engine going down. By doing this it boosts power by 5 horsepower and peaks 100 rpm higher than stock, but they did not create it for the horse power gain alone, they did it so the rider can keep riding on that good snow when the snow is good.
(THE FIX) sells for $585 and a local Polaris Dealer near you can install it. Or you can always come over to southern Idaho and have us install it.
The kit includes:
2 Hard Anodized/Friction Coated Forged Pistons
1 Plated Cylinder Shim
8 Longer Cylinder Base Bolts
1 Base Gasket
2 Cylinder Alignment Dowels
1 Set of Instructions
$585 plus tax and frt
www.pmspolaris.com can install for right around $300 or you can have your local Polaris dealer or local shop install it. Thanks for the interest in it. I can answer any more questions if you need.
We have a rental company using them and we even have them in turbocharged engines without failure. Yes they are Wiseco forged pistons, hard anodized and friction coated.
We have been running these kits since last winter and have done teardown evaluations which we take the pistons out to inspect and they look great. It has been crazy how fast these kits are going out the door, and we are building them as fast as possible to keep up with demand, Let us know and we will get you on the list. This is a long term solution to the durability issues Polaris 800 engines are experiencing. Everyone that has put one in and rode with it has commented on the snap the motor has in the midrange and how much quieter the engine seems. It makes the engine seem like it wants to pull harder and longer than it did before. Hope this helps and look forward to talking to you.
