800 chalenge, not right to me

just read powder 2009 800 challenge, and i cant belive some of the things in it, it pissed me off... it was prety much the opposite of my own experience and i tried them all (xp,dragon RMK, M ...) they are all great sleds, it depends on the way you ride...

why the hell they said the RMK was not maneuvrable
or the summit xp sidehill so well
or the M lack power....
thats not true... all 800 with a good setup have great power... and to me The RMK is so maneuvrable, this chassis offers the best handling ever!

oh and the worst part of this 800 challenge... they explain at the begining that some of the test riders are wannabes who ride once a year... dammit how can you evaluate and test the best mtn sled when you dont know much about that... for me its a total lack of credibility for snowest in general.
im not sure if i want to subscibe for the next 3 years... i want to read a mag that can give good, profesionnal opinion on test ride.

sorry, but it realy frustated me.
and here is some objective 2009 ranking that i saw on forums

reliability side hill agressive jackson hole style
1-M8 1-RMK 1- Rmk
2-RMK 2-M8 2-M8
3-summit 3-xp 3-xp

handling flotability Boondocking (trees)
1-RMK 1- XP 1- Rmk and M8
2-M8 2-m8 2- XP
3-xp 3- RMK 3-

on trail Climbing steep deep
1-xp 1- XP
2-RMK 2- M8
3-M8 3- RmK

i was just sharing opinions, and want to know what you guys think about this year powder challenge. oh by the way amsnowmobiler mag tell the oposite in their opinion about 2009 800s. i do agree with them for the 800 ranking.

ps- coldfinger i do read ALL snowmobile mag for 7 years now... dont count my 12 post( on a mtn sled. i smoke you, any where anytime) so get prepared and rejeted your 1998 summit...lol ;)

yeah, cold old finger, i know what you think and your right. in grammar im no match for you:D

P-S: you should change your old cat for a M800 HO;) if you wanna try a real performer...:beer;

i told you to separate the column

so just for you

Reliability
1-m8
2-RMK
2-xp

side hill
1-RMK dragon 800
2-M8
3-xp

climbing jackson hole style
1-RMK
2-M8
3-xp

understand now!

If you read the report full on you will see that they used five different experienced riders to evaluate the sleds. And also, put three novice riders on the sleds to get the beginners opinions of the machines. OK now??

You need to relax JP. It's just somebody's opinion. Kind of like what your expressing on here. There's not 1 person on this forum who gives a ratts azz about what sled you think is the best, so why do you care so much about what somebody else thinks?

yeah your probably right guys

maybe i should relax a bit, but iv always took mountain sledding very seriously. i think riding the steep and deep require technique, jugment, talent toughness and very good equipment.
and if you still feel fresh at the end of the day, youre were definitely not trying hard enough, and didnt go anywhere;)
the trail is probably more suited for you. and thats fine. but for my part i like to push my self deep in the backcountry in extreme spot, and i know im not the only one, cause we represent the passion for this sport and thats why we need and apreciate so much the level of technology of todays mtn sleds.:D

I dont know why the xp should be classed first, cmon they are carbed sled and in the mtn thats a disadvantage ( rolover, altitude and temp change. etc...) but they do have qualities for sure...
BUT...i just dont think a beginer can put a jugment on this.
and why didnt they mention the level of the rider, they just mention the name... like ok for today the rider who were testing the 09 800 are curtis mary and glen. we need to know what kind of rider they are... so we could know like agressive rider likes the RMK dragon, less experience rider loves the xp, and the M800 ... well i think every one likes them...

finaly just to respond to a ques.

steep and deep climbing
1-XP
2-M
3-RMK

hillclimb competition (jackson hole)
1-RMK
2-M
3-XP

thats a different type of hillclimbing

and i try to be objective in my opinions
thats why i class the M800 as the most reliable, thats what i experienced:o

I can't believe all you people are just jumping on this kid about his opinion. Obviously it is what it is...an opinion. 12 posts or 12,000 posts it shouldn't matter, he's just saying what he thinks.

Didn't you read his first post, seems like somebody is jumping on snowest for posting their opinion. I don't see how its any different.

It really doesn't matter, cat took themselves out of the competition for next year by building a HO 800 that will make the 09 800's look silly.

Lightweight crank......Please. Skippy Doo is going to be pulling them both out next year. I hope that lightweight POS bumper and tunnel can handle at least one at a time.

Junk because its a carb'd sled? When my riding partners wire harness came off his hood and melted on the pipe, why would his not run?? Maybe that 'great efi'? Where as on my carbed rev AND cat, i can roll, melt wires, tune, mod, actually be able to START it when it WONT start. Carbs serve their purpose. I enjoy the throttle feel of a good ol' carbed sled any day over the ECU feeling of a damn efi. Just because you ride an IQ it doesnt make it the best, just for you, and thats why we buy what we buy, cuz we think its the **** and thats what we want. Then theres people that ride whatever is new, and thats the way to do it.

PS the XP not sidehilling "myth" is BS..

The reason the rankings and ratings and all that seem to be messed up is because the sleds are all that good, really close. Best thing is to ride each one, pick the one you think you like and if you have a good dealer you're good to go. Now that being said I'm much more interested in durability and reliability and would rather see these riders hammer the sleds equally for 2000 miles and report on the problems. IMHO, and I ride a lightweight ZX, the Polaris was nice, 5 minutes and I felt right at home. The M, about the same a little strange but it works good, just don't care for the tall dash and windshield, the XP hmmmmm this is going to take a little longer to figure out the balance, about a day but I liked it. All great power and traction. You couldn't build a sled like these 7 years ago for $15000. or more and they're ONLY $10000. and have a warranty.
