How does the slp 727 run against carls 685 are they pretty close? I have heard alot of good things about both. Just wondering if one performs better than the other.
How do these kits compair with 800's?

I can't say about the 727. But carls 685 is a great motor. Got a few in our group. They'll run with an 800 all day.

Chris frm Carls said that the 727 will beat a 685 by 2-3 sled lengths in the field. Can't go wrong with the deal SLP has on the 727 right now.

Hasn't SLP discontinued the 727? I know they still have kits, but I don't think they are building any more. You might want to ask about ongoing support if you have problems.

(more to it than just one versus the other and your question is far too general)

Each sled setup and who built the various systems is far more critical than saying a 727 is faster....they are not all the same. If you took the best setup 727 in perfect tune and ran it against the exact best 685 also in perfect tune (all other factors exactly equal) the 727 has slightly more displacement with the same weight and can make a bit more torque and HP.

When Chris from Carl's says there is a 2 length variance he is saying on there like setup buggies that was the experience.

so the answer to your question is YES...NO...SOMETIMES...AND MAYBE

Is there a 685 or 727 for the Pro 600 CFI2?

Rob couldn't be more correct.

My wife has an 09 660 CFI-2 (Chris' old sled) which runs an OE 700 piston. Off the line, it will eat my well tuned 800 on the trails. Both sleds are 153" Powerclaws. In the deep, 3 feet plus, the torque of the 8 has a slight advantage but it's close.

The 660 is a sleeper. The fun factor vs, a stock tuned 800 (even in the deep) can't be described accurate enough. I think the funnest sled in 2012 will be a Carls 660 PRO. I know Jack built one for his wife last year. Now that Polaris is building a 600 PRO, it will be much easier and cheaper.

As for the 685, these run on the Carb'd 600's and run as well as 660, maybe a tick better, especially when tuned correct.

The cool thing about the 685 is it uses the highest quality pistons made. It uses a Pro-X piston made by Art, the largest piston builder in the world. These are awesome pistons.

From what I was told, the 727 uses a Weisco piston. I don't have any experience with the 727.

the 660 is the only one available for the cfi right now. would have to call carl's to see if they had plans to build cfi 685s or 727.

i have had both a 660 and a 727 in carb form. both built by carl's. the 660 is probably one of my all time favorite motors. it is such a sleeper and is so much fun to ride. mine was in an edge chassis and would hang with any 800 on the snow. most of the time it won't set the high mark against well tuned and good running 800s so if that is one of your main concern get something with a bigger stroke. but for all around boon-docking/back-country it is really hard to beat for the flickability and fun factor. (keeping in mind mine was in an edge, it would be spectacular in a pro chassis) i loved the little extra power the 727 had but i did not like having to run weisco pistons. i ate about four of them in a very short time. the first one was my fault and the next three were do to a size issue (long story). you have to be EXTREMELY careful about cold seizures with the weisco's. simply b/c there isn't a mind blowing difference between the two in power and the reliability factor with the 660 i would probably go with the 660 if i did it again. with that said, if i had the choice i take the best of both worlds and run a 685 if they are built. fwiw, i want to have two sleds. my 90% of the time ride would be a new 600 pro with a 660/685 and the epic deep days ride would be a pro turbo 800. (fyi, i'm riding an 11 pro now and will be on it for a while)

also, out of the two you specifically stated i would decidedly go with the carl's built 685. as f-bomb stated NOT ALL KITS ARE CREATED EQUALLY. that is not a slam against slp in any way but time has more than proven carl's kits.

sorry for the overly long post. enjoy whatever you end up with.

I have a spare set of cylinders and I'm torn between the 660 and 685 as well. Have the 685 s really proven that there as reliable as the 660s?

I ran a Carls 660 for 150 hours then gave it to my wife who has run it another 100 hours. Great motor BUT.....Against my 800 in the same IQ 155 it just doesn't have the torque. In deep snow I will take the 800 every time. Again in the 800 at 130 hours the crank is beat to death.
