700 or 800

i really like all the input! Put it this way. i bought my 05 edge 700 151 brand new and just sold it with 1500 miles on it. thats how much i ride. i dont have tons of time or money and being that i am living in western wisconsin its expensive to find mountains. but heres the thing. i am sick of a couple guys in my group on their good running skidoo 800s that i can run with but i cant put up the high mark everytime. i dont want to deal with the tuning issues of a turbo or large mods like this but i do thing a pcv would be fun to mess with. i am sick of making a highmark. i wanna go over the top. so i was leaning to the 7 but i am headed to grand mesa next week with 4 poo 7s 1 2010 d8 and 1 skidoo 800. i will have to ride them all and see what i think.

You might want to talk to the local dealer and find out if they can get you a demo ride on the new prormk..they say it will be bad .....and might be worth the wait....(if you want a great D-8 mines for sale..and it runs very good....)

Petermk -> If you will be on Grand Mesa this Saturday I might be up there to ride. You could take my sled for a quick spin if you like and see what you think. My sled is for sale to, but I don't mind if you just want to check out the D8. You could also join our club on our club ride on Sunday at Red & White (Avon/Vail area).

I will agree that the D7 is a better out of the box sled than the D8. The D8 takes a little more effort to setup, but you don't have to be a rocket scientist to get it there. Some clutching and PCV to change the fuel settings and you are there.

I do not doubt that your "prep'd" d7 will out perform a box stock d8. That is not comparing apples to apples to me. Same can be said for most any sled. Good clutching and gearing is huge as is setting up the suspension for how and where you ride. It is amazing just how many people will ride a sled exactly as the dealer hands it to them. I guarrentee, if you setup a d8 as you have done to yours, the results would be different.

Agreed.

That will give you the ultimate "demo" if your friends will let you ride their sleds! Any of these sleds would do just fine. Just a sidenote, I went from a 2002 800 RMK 151" to the D7 and can honestly tell you there is no comparison in the power that these new motors are putting out! If I remember correctly, I believe going from that 800 to the 700 I actually gained 8 hp. Best of luck on choosing which one suites you best.

I love the 08 700 but it still does not have the low end that the 800 has. If you have short take offs or lack of momentum the 700 will not climb what the 800 will out of the box.

Gear, Skid Angle, Clutch (spring, weights, helix), Pipe, and Shocks need to be dialed on the 700 to compair with the 800 on the mountain in my opionion.

If you are not going or want to spend the money on a new Pro you should be patient and find a great deal on a performing 800 from someone that is going in that direction. Since you will have your shocks properly done from Carls anyway, do not think you have to have a Dragon. RMK is just fine if it saves you a few dollars!

2009 and up are just a hair better for handling due to newer swaybar setup and up have the real oem bumpers.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the help. we wont be there til sunday unfortunetly. we are leave wi on sat morning and staying at the bottom of the hill ti sunday morning. i really appreciate it though you guys have been a great help. i really like the pro but i am still in college and i dont think i could swing a new one. my dealer told me last week it would go around 11 and i dont want to borrow any money if i dont have to. i guess i will see what i think on next weeks ride and find a deal over the summer. i am not in a huge hurry.

How are the 2010's different than the 2009'? They have the same plastic, arms and sway bar. The only difference to my knowledge is the pipe and head.

i was thinking about past 800s and my 03 800 sucked fuel like crazy i was curious about how you guys with the d8s were doing on fuel compared to the 7s

It's the camoplast challenger extreme that is the difference maker on pumpnlead's sled.

I ride an 07 700 Dragon RMK with slp pipe and clutching, vents, 19:42 gearing and it worked well with series 5 155 track, but not as good as an out of the box 800. Put the camo extreme 155 on last year and my sled became a totally different sled when it came to climbing. I've had people question me if I have a turbo or a big bore. The camo extreme is amazing, especially in our wet, heavy california snow.

My .02 cents,

Kale
