700 iq mods?

S

sledneck_03

Well-known member
looking for best bang for my buck mods for my 08 700 rmk.

I have heard the stock pipe is very well tuned and a aftermarket is a waste of money so i was thinking PC3 or 5, but what about clutching and gearing to keep rpm up to climb higher? ive seen a couple post about great set ups a while back but i cant seem to find them now. Thanks.

The 700's run very strong...

Make sure the clutches are spot on (primary balanced/checked for proper clearance etc)....new springs, weights with no slop in bushings, rollers smooth, delrin washer etc... the stock clutching works great... adjusting weight for altitude. Belt side clearance and deflection set to standard. Make sure that the belt is well washed/scrubbed ever few rides as well as the clutch faces.

I recommend 19/42 gearing.

TPS base line and idle voltage (two different procedures) should be confirmed.

Put your money into handling first ... then power IMO...

No need for the PC-3/5 IMO on the 700.

Make sure that the front end camber, and toe are set correctly.

IMO, the biggest bang for the buck is an aftermarket skid... The Timbersled Mountain Tamer made a night and day Improvement to my sled... able to stay in control better, and climb much better as well.

A good lightweight silencer like the Skinz Protective Gear Super Q or Ultra-Q is a good choice.

Add a little venting, some better intake screens on the console and you will be ready to go. I really like the Fire N Ice products... A bit more expensive, but the quality is there.

Awesome, thanks.

i do have some mountain fit vents and i also upgraded to 09 w/e airs that ive had no trouble with im going to upgrade to big boy springs this year too.

Ive noticed a slow drop in rpm over the course of the year......any idea what that would be?

For me the loss of RPM was caused by years of wear and tear on the clutches. A little basic TLC (new springs, weights, delrin washers, alignment, etc) was all it needed. I also changed to 19/42 gearing last season with great results. Thanks to the guys like Mountainhorse, F-Bomb, J Kinser, etc. who really know their sleds and share their experiences!

k, ill look into getting the clutches done, and ill try out the gearing. I also have some venting i forgot about, i dont know if the 700 needs it compared to the old 900/700 but i thought it couldnt hurt. So your telling me the PC5 isnt worth the money? or if i get it i would need to get a intake and pipe then its worth it? I thought they bring the numbers up from 135 hp to 142-145ish with just the programmer?

I have the PC-3 on my 2007 D7, and installed another PC on a 2007 D7, and another on a 2008 D-7, all at 1200 feet elevation.

The PC-3 leaned out on top and richened up in the mid range improved performance and drive-a-bility, not to mention preventing mid range burn-downs due to the factory lean condition in the 5000 R.P.M. range.

The PC-3/PC-5 WORKS, period.

P.M. XC8 (BILL) on www.hardcoresledder.com if you'd like

he puts a good amount of miles trail riding his sled.

He has the PC-3 ON a 2008 D-7, it was his sled they dynoed at Jim's shop 1 1/2 years ago.(His sled is the 142 h.p. sled you mentioned, and that's with the STOCK pipe)

They also tried the SLP single pipe.

Last I heard he kept the PC-3 and had the pipe up for sale.

Check out the "TECH TIPS " thread under the "INCREASING YOUR IQ" pinned at the top, lotsa good info that I think you'll find useful.

Good info Kraven. I'm planning on calling Jim and getting a PC5 for my sled before the snow flys also. And yes, I'm one of the guys who gave you a hard time albout pushing the PC3 years ago...even the stuborn ones come around eventually...:face-icon-small-ton

Haven't seen you around much lately, welcome back.

How many miles on your top end and what do the pistons/cyls look like?

What elevation do you ride?

Moresno is on a good track... the power drop could be from the clutches.

IMO... get Indy Dan do fully go thru your primary clutch... WAY more of a complete service than anyone else out there... do it in the summer before the "crunch".

Kraven... I never had any issues with power on my 08 700... that baby RAN! (stock pipe).... but then again, my lowest elev riding is 3,500 ft.

Clutches set spot on in all regards and balanced. No lean out issues either. Piston wash and plugs were perfect riding all over (Alpine Wyo, N. Idaho, Revy, Whistler, N. Cali, Utah etc).

Dyno-Jim runs at low elevation for his dyno runs... some things change that can't be compensated for on a low elev dyno when at altitude. I think that the lean/fat condition you are talking about might be more of an issue for the lower elev sleds.

I agree Kraven..The Power Commanders do flat out work! I would not have a naturally aspirated CFi 800 without one... I just dont know if it is the best bang for he buck on a CFi 700... but it certainly wont hurt.

I'll stick to my story above...invest in handling first...power second.

By far the best sled Polaris has made in the last 10 years IMO.
Too bad that Polaris did not keep the 700 for the Pro RMK.

Life is good.

Mor-Sno,

Hard time? I do recall that but no offense taken then. The way I look at it is sites like this are suppose to help out each other

Haven't left, Still love sledding, but only 3 months max in the Midwest, supplementing that by being in the Jet-Ski-ing mode in Lake Michigan, hanging out at the Beach, Enjoying that occasional fruity drink with one of those silly little umbrellas in 'em, watching the sun set, looking for that occasional Thong Bikini, that's all.

Check out www.greenhulk.net Same screen name, different avatar, I think you'll dig it, and yes, they're real!

Have a GREAT summer............

Eric, I respect your opinion, however my experience with the 700, albeit at low elevation is that the mid-range is dangerously LEAN, in addition to being 10% and more RICH on top.

Sounds like you're not at part throttle all that much, but..................

I find it hard to believe that taking the same sled into higher elevation that POLARIS programmed the sensors and map correctly to somehow miraculously rectify BOTH of those shortfalls, that's all.

Usually we get out to West Yellowstone every 2-3 years or so, (we're long overdue) it's a 24 hour road trip from my place, as we bring our own sleds, hopefully we'll be out there this February and I'll get a chance to test out the pc-3 On a 700 combo at the higher altitude.

Stop by Eino's and I'll buy you a steak, but you'll have to grille it yourself................
