Couple questions about these. First, these were a popular cylinder over others, why? Second, anyone know If they can be put on an 02 bottom end?

I believe the ports were a little larger and they made a couple more horse than the 824's. The bottom ends from '97 thru '05 were pretty much all the same, yes you could put 220's on an '02 bottom end. Any of the 600 bb from '97 thru '05 were the same bottom end as the 700 also. Ask Sled_guy he's forgotten more about bb polaris' than I'll ever know.

ports were 2mm different. other than that they aren't much differnt. 220's responded a little better with a single pipe.

That's good to know, I'll be running them with a single into turbo.

original design of them was a single ring piston. Worked real well if changed out every 2k miles or less. If you run the ducati style ignition, get your hands on a 97 ECU . Hotter unit that ran more aggressive timing curve and made more HP. Cant be a new one or from a 98 sled HAS to come from a original 97. More timing and more compression also helps this engine out too. Loves the SLP single pipe one of my favorite all time engines. Its best configuration is a engine tech 770 those were based on 220 cylinders and ABSOLUTELY RIPPED.
