7.3 Motor longevity?

powerstroke diferences

The best year for the 7.3 is the 99 year period! that year had forged rods and is intercooled,so you can throw power adders without worries of rod problems.Sometime in 2000 hit or miss ford changed the connecting rods to powdermetal rods.Still a great motor in stock but when you push the envelope it will break!I know this because I have a 99 and my roomate has a2000 and both of us have raced nhrda diesels. My roomate has launched a rod or two and it was not pretty.good luck and happy strokin!

I have a 2001 F-350 with 298,000miles, never had a major problem that wasn't user induced. It is on its third tranny, but the first one the dealership never hooked up the cooler lines after a tranny flush and took it out, and the third one my girlfriend at the time tore out. I have a Garrett GTP38R turbo, 150hp Hypermax injectors, Edge juice with attitude stacked with the Edge evolution programmer, AFE stage 2 intake, and an ATS torque converter. All mods have been on since around 150,000. Its still runs great, gets good fuel mileage and has good power.

just spent another $3400.00 (along with previous $2100.00 and $1100.00) to try and figure out a no-start problem when the P.O.S. is cold...seems like it will not start if it hasn't been driven daily...skip a day, and don't plug it in overnight, and it WILL NOT START!!! it's nowhere near freezing yet...i'm so pissed...anyone wanna take this damned thing off my hands?? i'll GIVE it to you...then you too can say how"great" your 7.3 is....i've had it with this thing!

This website is awesome for powerstoke owners. Caution, it gets addicting.
You need to take what he says with a grain of salt... a lot of what he says and preaches is BS.
daviking- the only catch with the 99 is to make sure you get a late model 99 if you want to do most of the go-fast stuff. The early 99 (like mine) has a different turbo setup, HPOP, and injectors that all need to be upgraded if you are keepin' up with the Jones'.
I'm right in line behind highmark18 for klubbo's truck. 191k on my 99 and still going strong. Runs like a champ, it's got a few mods (4" exhaust, open intake, DP Tuner) and been a good truck for me.

Like what, give an example. I've watched most everything on the site and it seems to be dead on. I didn't like some of his brake replacement procedures and he pushes a couple of products that wouldn't be my first choice but his powerstroke info and experience is second to none.

I've got a 99 f350 with 277,000 miles still going strong. Replaced original trany at 237,000 with the new ford upgraded heavy duty Trans. Replaced a few wheel bearings and a lot of tires along the way.

1997 PowerStroke

Bought mine with 20k on it, now about 250K. Water Pump, Exhaust system upgrade. Clean truck the envy of my friends with newer ones.
