660 RMK reviews

I have one an truthfully wouldnt bother. Take the money you would spend and put it towards an 800. People will tell you they are close.....they are not. On the trail mine is fairly close to an 800. In the powder they blow the 660 away.

keep it stock and enjoy the ride. make a 660 and have fun working on it

Are we talking Carls 660's or someone elses? Please elaborate.

My wife has a Carls 660 and it absolutely rips. It pulls the same weight and helix as my 800 does. There are 3 other 685's and another 660 in my riding group and they all rip. The 06 685 I have tuned to smoke my 800, which if yours is carb'd, you would be getting from Carls.

The 660 doesn't have the initial off the line torque that the 685 has but has an unreal top end. The only time my 8 will take the 660 was in 4-5 feet of pow where the torque of the 8 is a little more.

I have a 2007 rmk 660 from Carls's. The sled rips, however sometimes I wish i would have just spent the money on an 800. The kit runs on pump gas but being in a small town where not much 91 octane fuel is used you never know how long its been sitting in the tank and what the octane really is so i mix in a bit of race fuel for insurance. Also sucks if I am away from town and end up in another town that does not have 91 octane. I rode a friend's 09 assault 800 only for about 10 minutes in the deep snow one day and not sure if it was just the track or not but it sure seemed to pull harder than mine. I am going to snowcheck a 2012 800 to get away from jetting and get back to a stock motor. Sure hope they have the little issues fixed on the 800s by next year so i dont regret my decision.

I just bought a 660 and this sled rips. I love it. I had had 800's, slp727, 700, 600. They all have lots of power and run great. So far i like this 660. Time will tell

I had a carles 660 in a 06 rmk, i loved it, power was great, i bought a 800 just to get away from jetting but feel that the 660 had just as much power at lower elevations on the praries, as for mountain riding i cant really say as i only rode it one day in the hills and there was no fresh snow anwhere, i would not hesitate to buy one again, the reliabilty is prob way better than the 800 to.:face-icon-small-hap

If you are getting a Carl's Performance kit then go for it! Do the complete package from A to Z. Set it up exactly as they spec and enjoy. Not all kits are alike so don't be fooled into thinking every 660 kit is universally excellent.

It's an exceptional performance mod for your application with 100% proven results. Probably the most prolithic big bore application on sleds. Executed correctly the Carl's 660 kit is absolutely pull and go reliability, with dramatic performance improvements over your stock Polaris small block 600.

Here is (was just sold it to my very very good friend) our 07 660 with all of the candy. SLED IS AND HAS BEEN ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING FROM DAY ONE.

I had a '07 RMK with a Carls Cycle 660 kit. Probably one of the best engine mods I've done to a sled for reliability and pull-n-go characteristics. It rev'ed fast and was a hoot to ride all day, every day. I took F-bomb's advice before I went with the kit and did exactly as he suggested, it worked great.

Now I'm on a TD8 but still have a bit of seller's remorse on the 660.

We bought the 660 from Jonce. Best all-round sled we have ever had. Installed a Holtzman ATACC for the jetting and a CE track. Over 4000 miles and it still rips. This thing is pulling the same clutching as my Pro on the flat lands. Taking it to Cooke this weekend, so we will see how it compares in the hills.

If you get the Carl's Cycles kit that Jack developed, it will rip. I have an '07 685, this is my 5th season on it with complete reliability. I have embarrassed many 700 and 800 cc sleds with my 685, it's that good. A 2010 800 in stock form cannot beat this sled. Very responsive and quick revving, pulls hard, yet rides light. This is the funnest sled I have ever owned. We traditionally buy new sleds every 3 years, but I have not ridden a new sled (until the 2011 Pro-RMK) that I like better than my 685, hence the 5th season on this sled. We had Carl's freshen up the top end at about 2,000 miles, and the pistons and cylinders looked great. There really was no need to put new pistons in, but hey, it was already open......

It will be for sale in 2 months, only because I have an itch for a Pro-RMK. Now comes the decision...Pro 800, or Pro 600 with a 685 kit.......

That is AWESOME to hear! I'm glad it's still working for you! I really miss that sled, I wished I would've kept it for a backup sled. Thanks for the update!

if you want power with the 600 then just buy a highmark carb turbo setup. thats what i did, makes a 685 look like a 583 skidoo.....constant power and feel. cost a little more than a 685 kit but after you do all the work on a 685 to make it the right way just buy a turbo and be steps ahead

Unfortunately, a turbo 600 will never have the feel, responsiveness, friendliness, and fun factor for mountain boondocking that a Carl's 685 will have. The turbo will for sure have more power for straight up hill climbs, and that is where they shine, but as for boon docking through the trees in the mountains, I would not have a turbo sled for that. I guess it all boils down to your riding style.......

KMO, We have a 07 rmk 685 carl's kit in our group. He has had all the work done to it and it does run great, but the carb style turbo kits that highmark make are great for tree riding due to the duel use of fuel delivery system. at low rev's the normal fuel pump supplies the fuel and at 1/2 or more throttle the electric bypass system works to help with fuel needs, no lag at all.
A turbo all depends on the guy setting it up. you see a lot of guys on here wanting heavy weights for their turbo set-up when in real life, smaller is sometimes better when everything is working together. i run about 57-58 weights in mine thats it. and it rips
I do like the 685 kits (almost bought one)but once i priced them all worked up VS. a turbo kit there was not a lot of price difference. Thats why i went with the big purchase the first time, NO wishing later that i had more power.

KMO , Are you waiting for the 2011-2012?? pro 600 in the new chassis to come out, or you looking at buying a 2011 pro 600 in the same iq set-up that you already have?? that or do you know something the rest of us don't about a pro 600 being made????

The 2011 pro 800 is a hell of a sled, just underpowered a little. i am wait for the 600 pro myself
