660 Clutching

I was at Halfway last weekend and had some funny issues.

Sled has 2000 miles, Carl's built 660 and it has a 10-62 with blue/pink in the primary and black/purple with a 60/40-.45 shimmed P2 secondary. 19/42 gears and a 155 track, purple exhaust valve springs.

At elevations up to about 5800' the sled would hit 8300 R's right now and run hard. Once I got up to the 6500-7200' it would max out at 8000 but usually more like 78-7900. On long pulls it would even lag down to about 7200 then occasionally even drop to 6200 and then run back up to about 7500 for the rest of the pull.

Over New Year's, I was riding at Bachelor so it was at similar elevations and it had similar issues. It did however pull hard to 7900 then take a bit longer to reach 81-8200 instead of snapping right to it.

I'm assuming a 10-60 would help the top end but what would be causing the drop to 6200 R's when pulling a long run?

Any other clutching suggestions for this set up?

Thanks

I pulled the top end off last winter to check everything over and things were clean and the way they should be. I only have 230 miles since then.

Carl's built the motor and programmed the ECU so I have no knowledge of exactly what they do.

I just replied to your pm so I didn't see...black purple secondary spring? And purple exhaust springs? I would go back to the black spring in the P-2.

We ran stock on both with ours. You should be able to run 10-62 BB's up to 7,000 ft and hit 8,200 rpm no problem.

2,000 miles, I would think about a new top end myself. These are stock 700 CFI pistons.

I've seen bushing wear in the P-2's in as little as 1,000 miles but also in TSS-04's too.

I'm running 10-58s in my 2 Edge 660s but I ride up to 11k elevation and am running the TEAM secondary so might not translate to your setup.

Any advantage to take a 10-62 or 10-64 weight down to 60 grams, or just replace with a 10-60?
a 10-60s going to be to light at lower alt go stiffer in the secondary and check plug color mines fat on top and does the same thing . Im spinnin 8
350 with 10-62s at 8k with a blk RMK spring and its a little soft

I work at Carls and my advice would be to call in and talk with our performance manager Chris Kasel. He oversees all of these kits and knows them in and out. Give him a call at 208-853-5550 and he can take care of you. If you need a rebuild kit like was suggested, we have all the pistons and gaskets in stock and could send them to you. If you need clutch parts, we can take care of you as well on that.

Thanks for the response. I was in contact with Chris via email multiple times and his answers of "throw more weight at it" didn't leave me with a ton of confidence when I was fighting the issue of getting the RPM to match up at my riding elevation. Too bad as I thought about going with a Carl's 660 in a Pro or Axys chassis at some time.

Aren't you turning 8350 Slash?
I hope that 6350 is a typo.
